I don't know if the Lux will be available in the US, but it would be a shame if it wasn't. Here's CZ's Czech webpage on the gun:

The US version also lists .243, .270, .308 and .30-06 as caliber options. The Czech version lists additional calibers, Euro favorites, I suppose.

I wonder, though--the 557 does not use CZ's usual Mauser bolt, nor does it have the usual set trigger. I wonder why, cost cutting move? Though not scout mount capable, looks like it would make a very handy little rifle. And damn, is it pretty!

On the other hand, my brother-in-law recently bought a CZ455 Varmint He claims that it will stack them, one on top the other until you're tired of shooting. He uses it as a squirrel rifle, and general purpose varmint slayer.

I have to admit that CZ is making some very nice rifles.

Yeah, I wonder if the 557 is meant as the 527's big brother. I wish I'd picked up a 527 in 7.62x39 when they were still cheap. My 452s, a Lux in .22 lr and an American in .22 wmr, are both tack drivers. For the 6.5 Swedish I already have a 550 American, helluva gun, but frankly, I don't shoot it much. I'd love the 557 to go with, though I'd probably not shoot it much either. Heck, I haven't shot my rifles much at all since the ammo drought started, I should remedy that.

The 527 is the "small action" - generally limited to .223 sized cartridges, with one exception.

The 550 is/was the large action, and came in two different action sizes - "medium"(actually long action) and "Magnum"(a true magnum sized action, capable of utilizing very large-460 Weatherby and up- sized cartridges).

The 557 is 100% a cost cutting move. The 550 cost CZ too much to make and they were not selling enough in the US. They discontinued the 550 American altogether to force people into buying the 557 series. The 557 uses a push feed bolt that along with the receiver is much easier to manufacture and can be done all in-house. CZ is trying to make it look like it's "new and improved" and spin it like they didn't create this model solely to save money but that's exactly what it is.

Now, it very well could be a great rifle, i have not yet seen a review on it or seen one in person so don't take what I'm saying the wrong way.

A few years ago the factory decided to develop a push-feed version of the 550 action, resulting in the 557. Their reasoning was that the controlled round feed of the Mauser action is most important on the dangerous game rifles, not necessarily on the medium game chamberings.

A big reason for the change was that they would be able to bring production of the 557 fully in-house. The 550 actions are milled from forgings and are supplied by an outside vendor, while the new 557 is CNCed from steel billet at our factory. This removes the supply issue that at times hampered production on the 550, as well as enables us to tighten tolerances and produce a more precise product. It also enables us to have a true short-action platform for the .308, .243 and .22-250, which we've been wanting for some time.

Most importantly, while the Mauser action has many devoted fans, sales of the standard 550 have dropped off substantially over the years. We will continue to produce a number of standard 550s for 2014, but the main focus in CZ-USA's medium rifle category will be the 557. >We have no plans to get rid of the 550 Magnum.

The 557 is a premium push-feed rifle and we're proud to add it to the lineup. Combined with our cold hammer forged and lapped barrel, it'll be an excellent gun for anything from prairie dogs to moose.

Push feed instead of controlled feed, in a CZ. What's the world coming to? The only 557s I've seen for sale here were at Gunbroker, and were all .30-06. I don't see them anywhere at the moment.

I wonder if the B-Square scout mount could be modified to work?

Failing that, a conventionally-mounted 4X scope would make this a really nice spot-and-stalk rifle!

This is CZ's way of saying that they do not want to sell me anything. If I want a push feed rifle I'll buy a Savage.
