reloading a-square bullets

Post by Precision »

A buddy has a 7mm mag and wants to buy some bullets for it that are TOUGH, engine block tough. The A-squared monolithic solids seem to be the toughest SOB's in the ring.

They list some velocities and ballistics for 7mm STW. How does one go about getting information for putting these in a 7mm Mag and figuring out load data assuming they will work at all.

I realize he could just go with a 175gr bullet from someone else and start 10-15% lower, but finding some basic guidelines would be better. I have no idea on bearing surface differences etc. I assume the monolithic solid would have a much higher bearing surface, thus much higher peak pressure for the same powder amount.

So have him buy: Any Shot You Want.

Pricey? Well, now, Oh yeah. I bought my copy back when they were $29.95. But keep in mind that the A-Square Company is one of only 19 members of the prestigious SAAMI club.

$150-300 for a paper back. Holy Crap.

Contact A-Square and ask them. Or, use Barnes data, reduce by 15%, and go for the gold. Watch out for pressure signs. What powder are you using? I assume you're using the 175 grain bullet because that's the only one they make in 7mm, so that narrows your choices.

My buddy has the 7mag. I may get one at some point and would be very interested in the round. And yes, the 175gr because its what they have available.

I don't have a powder for 7 mag as I don't load for it. He does, I will ask him when he gets back from TDY.
