BIT:Segmented slug

Post by Aglifter »

I don't think something like those really fragmented pistol rounds would work but a poster on the AR forum came up w a load of interlocking... Cones I suppose for his judge , and got done decent penetration w it

Would something like that work for 12? Essentially acting like a more cohesive buckshot/a slug less likely to just blow through .,

A solution looking for a problem says I.

Winchester Super-X Hollow Point 12-ga 1-oz slug videos tested in gelatin:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HuVkXLreWE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKge3FF0Hx4

Approx. 12" - 14" of penetration in gel, and a fist-sized stretch cavity.
The second video shows much more clearly what happens to the Winchester Super-X HP slug- it turns into a donut!

The second video also claims that it would not be good for large thick skinned game such as bears...and I do agree...but these slugs are utterly devastating to thin-skinned, man-sized game such as Blue-Helmeted Interlopers.

except blue helmet interlopers have body armor.
They need to be hit with Rods from God, just to be sure.

The old timers had a load for shotguns that was sort of similar. They called it a stack of dimes.

Google "dime" shotgun load.

Laughably ineffective.

These weren't dimes. They are similar in weight to 0 buck, just... Well I will have to find a pic to explain the shape.

Winchester makes something similar in its PDX1 loading. I'll dig up a link when I'm on a real computer.
