Standard Soviet style politics, Party, Red Army and KGB all balancing each other and manuvering for a kill they will never achieve. Keep themselves in power and to hell with the peasants.

Considering the core of behind-the-scenes Chicago and Evanston Democrats have a fondness for saying how the Soviets weren't so bad and how socialism is misunderstood, calling thei political machinations "Soviet-style" is a compliment.

SoupOrMan has it pegged. The level of corruption and immorality in Chicago, Cook county, and Illinois politics is actually matched by the incompetence of so many of the participants/practitioners. We have the highest sales tax in the nation, yet the city, county, and state are all broke.

The historic corruption and incompetence in New Orleans is a church social compared to here.

Don't know the origin of the expression, but the old saying, "Anything you hear about Chicago politics is true," is absolutely on the mark.

And thank you Soup, for providing Lesson 1 to those who live in America, not Illinois.

Well, at least now I can say the State Board of Elections has provided something of use for the Guncounter readers. The real problem is that while you can do your best Kremlinologist impression when trying to interpret Chicago politics, it's rare to find anything inside the official records that will help solve the problems of a well-entrenched ward-district-state party system. I know, because I've seen the records that come from upstate. You've got to base everything off of conjecture from their records because one contribution or expenditure might mean that Senator So-and-So is having a turf war with Representative Whodat who is mediating Alderman Wossname's spat with a ward boss/ contract bidder. Conjecture doesn't hold up well at all when trying to remove someone from office. What's worse is the attitude of "This is how it's supposed to be" in Chicago. Democrats are supposed to run the city, and you're supposed to make sure you pay all the taxes and turn a blind eye to everything they do so they don't do something worse while you're looking.

I'd have fewer worries about it, but they keep sending the ones who bnefit most from the blind eyes to Springfield and the various Senators, Representatives, public service union agitators/organizers and lobbyists keep saying "Well, it works in Chicago, so why not apply it to Decatur and Peoria?"

Please, Chicagoans, for the sake of your fellow Illinoisans, leave those people where they belong... panhandling outside the Thompson Center!

I'm willing to bank that I'm minimum safe distance from Daley's mansion.

Nuke 'em from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Hmm. No nuclear rockets or warheads, mmkay? I'd like to give the Chicago Cubs a vain, easily-dashed hope that they'll get into the World Series again someday. Nuclear annihilation will really put a damper on that fun. Besides, if the radiation affects this one really good deli in Skokie, the one right as you come in on Dempster by the Yellow Line stop, I'll be really upset.

Those of us in the International Defensive Howitzer Association have a saying about the Chicago Way: "One of his pulls a knife, you pull a howitzer. They send one of yours to the hospital, you put a beehive round into City Hall." I'm still waiting to see if I can get that Docter Optic sight to keep from flying off my holdout M198 due to recoil, too.
