Carry piece (PA-63 or snubbie in .38 spc) with three reloads. Stock Mossy 500 with 18.5" barrel. Total of twenty 00 shells, counting reloads. Good flashlight, good Ka-Bar, Swiss army knife. For road trips, add a .45 with 3 reloads and a total of fifty 00 shells.

I've thought a bit about having a Mosin M-44 in there, though.

The Subaru doesn't really have a great secure spot for a long-gun and NY considers even having magazines loaded in the car to be a "loaded" gun, so I don't have a car gun right now. I'm usually carrying my S&W 360 plus a reload or two though, and I will often throw a long-gun in there if I'm going off the beaten path...that tends to be a shotgun or the 06 in case I see a deer.

Just whatever I'm carrying that day. I'm building a mental hospital, which is one of Utah's very few no-carry areas, so I don't even have ammo in my truck unless I'm actively going shooting.

I ran this theory past one of my local LE contacts (senior officer, several special duties, not your average patrol officer). He thought about it a second and then stated that he'd probably at least take the chance of calling on you to drop it once he had you covered in case it was another cop, but wouldn't hesitate with if you were holding an AK and looked like a threat.

Tell him I feel the same way about cops, as he does about guys with AKs.

I have had my knives over/on my left shoulder my whole life and am fairly used to it there. Recently I took a class from Paul Howe whom I was operationally in support of during Just Cause and he recommended moving it there and demonstrated several good reasons why, one being it otherwise interferes with the quick release of many types of plate carriers and another the ergonomics. I am not totally sold but thought I'd try it.

For large fighting knives, I actually really like the crossdrawfrom the belt position. I have a relatively small trunk, so I have to consider very carefully what I put into there. If I were to put all my gear in there, I would effectively lose use of my trunk. I have considered putting my SBR in there, but the cost and time in replacing it should it get stolen gives me pause. I thought about a shotgun, but decided that a carbine really is where it is at. So, what would peoploe suggest I put in the trunk amongst the following?:
1. 300 blackout AR pistol (effective cartridge, legal to conceal, disadvantageis that it is an act of improvisation to shoot it stably.
2. 16" 6.5 grendel piston drive(effectve cartridge, but kind of heavy, and needs optics)
3. 14.5" M4gery (a good answer, but I would actually have to buy this one)
4. 16" AR in 5.56 (expensive, with the optics on it)

Right now, I am leaning towards options 2 and 4.
