Kim du Toit's Gold Watch

Post by Weetabix »

I'm socially inadept in the way that only a male engineer who doesn't give a crap what other people think can be. But in the transition from the old site to here, I got the feeling that some of us love Kim and others not so much. In the interests of full disclosure, I have to admit I'm in the former class... in a non-homoerotic, punch in the arm sort of way.

Anyhoo, you have to admit that this community wouldn't exist in the form it does without the original home he provided for it on his site and in the second home he provided on the Gun Thing. I feel quite a debt of gratitude for what he started and what lives on here.

As most of you know, he will quit blogging on November 30, 2008. That's 11 days.

He had a post one day, Our Gold Watch, where he said that if anyone wanted to donate to a "Gold Watch" fund, he'd use the money either for range fees and ammo to continue building the Nation of Riflemen, to support Jack in his quest to get on the Olympic shooting team, or for meals in Europe on their upcoming trip.

I say we should all chip in a bit as a thank you for his bringing us all together. He'll take checks or there are paypal and Amazon buttons on the side. They're turning off the electronic donations at midnight on Nov 30 and stopping taking checks on Dec 30.

Go now! Donate! It's the least we can do.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

+1 Nothing like a "Crusty of Bastard" to get you to look at the world in a different way. I will miss him.

POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

Yup, the least we can do.

Here's some of the pertinent part of his post:
To sum up: your donations will:
a.) help pay for range memberships for training new shooters and supporting our future Olympian, and
b.) provide food- and drink funds for our European trip.

All donations will be gratefully received, and can be made through PayPal or Amazon (scroll down the right-hand column), or by check/money order sent to the Sooper-Seekrit Mailing Address:

3948 Legacy Dr.
Suite 106, PMB 363
Plano, TX 75023-8300

The Paypal- and Amazon buttons will be turned off at midnight, November 30th, and checks received after December 30th will be RTS.

I threw in some coin, too.

Some here may disagree with Kim's politics and/or delivery, but the bottom line is I can't think of any blogger that has done more to effectively get people to buy guns and shoot. Petty differences aside, there is no denying Kim's positive impact on America's gun culture.
