I don't think 308 is permitted in much of Africa - or Latin America.
At least at one time, France also had a military caliber ban.
Just something to keep in mind.

My Ruger All-Weather Hawkeye in .358 Winchester would do well at dealing with the wind & terrain, but it's only got 4 shots, and ammo availability would be an issue. (As in blank stares from the guys running the ammo tables at the fun shows...

What about that lovely little sporterized Lee-Enfield you had at the Shooting Fiesta a few years ago? If you still have it, that is. You should be able to find .303 British hunting ammo there.

It actually was a consideration but it would need to be drilled for mounts and then after the first trip it would no longer be lovely..... Maybe if I can find a polymer stock for it....Captain Wheelgun wrote:What about that lovely little sporterized Lee-Enfield you had at the Shooting Fiesta a few years ago? Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the roe deer the size of antelopes? If so, something like 260 Remington(nice flat shooting cartridge) would probably be ideal.

Both nice suggestions. The 260 Is a 308 necked to 6,5, right?

If they're only antelope-sized, a .22-250 would be ideal.

They say the mark of someone's intelligence is how much they agree with you. You must be an incredibly bright fellow, because I was thinking the exact same thing!Netpackrat wrote:Yeah, I was thinking a 7mm-08.

The more I play around with the 7mm-08, the more it impresses me. And since a big Alabama whitetail will dress out at about 120 lbs., I don't need a huge "knock 'em down and stomp 'em" type cartridge.
So far, Hunting Buddy has accounted for two smallish hogs with her 7mm-08 (both in the 150-175 lbs range) and the round has worked like a charm.
In reference to another thread, that I'm too lazy to look up right now, I'm beginning to think that my earlier statement that feral swine required at least a .30 caliber cartridge, i.e. .308, .30-06, .300 WM, etc. may have been ... ill-advised.
