Speaking of which has anyone got a SITREP from Highspeed. He's been sinker quite a while.

Friends help you move.
True friends help you move...bodies.
"Look, Slick, that's my kin.
Nobody saw you come in here, and nobody has to see you leave.
I have a gun in the car, a shovel in the trunk, and 40 acres of barren desert property away out beyond the black stump.
You want to go see what it looks like from the inside, jut fail to be on the next bus out of town."

If they happen to coincidentally be listening to The Speech while standing on an unrolled sheet of heavy-mil plastic, it usually adds immeasurably to the impact of the wisdom imparted.

My wife is the only one I have shared the story with and when I read this to her tonight, she wanted to know who my friend was. I told her it didn't matter. She was annoyed, but I think understands why it is OPSEC.

The we talked about my meaning of the word "friend". I have maybe 3 friends.

friend = someone who you can call to help bury a body at 3am. They only ask if they need to bring their own shovel. You also have to be willing to die before you give them up - your portion of the friendship

by the way, she is one of them.

Everyone else is a guy you'd share a drink with.
I suspect that even if you dont know it, your list of "friends" has expanded a bit beyond 3 since you got on here those many years ago :-)

Thank you. But a theory I am hoping not to have to test. :D

Friends who have... shall we say... morally flexible... forensic cleanup specialists on retainer are useful.

It can be very awkward to owe those friends too many favors.

On the topic of friends, choose who you're a friend to carefully.

Story time again.

Something over 20 years ago my then-girlfriend had a friend who was married to a jackass. I knew the guy in High School, he was a wackjob then and hadn't improved with age. He hit her, threw hot coffee in her face, and like to watch her screw his friends. so I get a call at work that she wants to get out, neither she nor ex-gf drove, so I leave work early to help her move her stuff out before jackass gets home. I throw a couple rolls of pennies in a sock, just in case (this was before I owned guns), go to her place, pack up her stuff, and bring her to GF's place. It's Friday, we three go out for dinner at the pub we hung out at. It's basically a burger-and-beer place, but she orders a steak dinner and drinks Harvey's all night, then when the check comes announces she only has $5. Now I'm a nice, guy, I'll but you dinner, but ask me first before you start ordering the most expensive stuff the place offers. So anyway, I transport her back to GFs, where she stays a few days then moves back in with jackass. GF cut all ties with her, we figured we'd be reading about her in the newspaper someday. I ran into her a few years later in the supermarket, she told me she was pregnant.

I dropped him an email a few weeks ago, but he didn't respond. I've been thinking about starting a rescue mission thread.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

Of course, they expect similar consideration in return...
And be careful about asking "normal" favors of such friends.
Years ago I learned that the hard way when I listed one such friend as a "general charactor reference"(with his prior permission, of course). The company I was interviewing with did contact him, asking him his opinion of me. His response was..........rather unique. He informed the HR rep that there were only 3 persons, other than family members, that he would be willing to kill someone for. And I was one of them..........

I didn't know whether to laugh or be depressed.....because I didn't get hired. :?

Highspeed and his loving wife are on Facebook. He had recently been hospitalized due to a DVT clot in one of his arms. The last I heard was that he had just gotten home and is planning on following his Dr.'s instructions since he doesn't recover as quickly as he used to and wants to spend a few more decades here on Earth with his wife before leaving.
