Reminds me of a time about a year ago in my family. I've got three strapping boys, all well into adulthood, and one daughter. At the time, Daughter was married to a Nitwit and actively sharing a household with him. The brothers got wind of a problem that Nitwit had precipitated, and while the details are sketchy (and being investigated by the Sheriff's Office for possible felony charges) the brothers thought it wise to have a chat with Nitwit and bring him "up to speed" on what happens if Daughter is harmed. Younger son came to me during a family gathering, told me what was about to happen, and told me that I didn't need (as in: you're not wanted) to participate in the conversation.
I looked over my spectacles at younger son. "Are you going to injure him?"
"Not unless he wants to get stupid. We're just going to have a talk with him."
Sons gathered Nitwit and they walked around the barn, out of earshot. In about ten minutes, Nitwit came around the barn at a fast walk, got into his pickup truck and left the scene. The brothers came around the barn from the other direction, talking quietly among themselves. I asked younger son "How did it go?"
"We'll see", he said. "I believe he got the message."
Nitwit has not turned up at a family gathering since that evening. Nitwit and Daughter are now actively separated, pending divorce. Brother's handled their business like the men that they are, and while I don't want to know what was said, I can imagine that it was both forthright and compelling. Nitwit obviously got the message because he is not causing any problems at all during the separation.
I might add that my sons have a larger percentage of Cajun blood than any other proportion. That's how we handle family matters.

Was it Kim Du Toit or the Mrs. who told of how Kim drove some 8 hours round-trip to belt his brother-in-law for acting badly towards his sister?
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

It was remarked both before and after her passing that my brothers and I were the "sons of Katie Elder". More than once my mom said she never needed guard dogs or personal firearms, because she had sons.
Had there been a sister anywhere in the mix, God help the miscreant that might offend family standards. As it is, the two nieces I have can take care of themselves, but in no small part due to the fact that their fathers and uncles could adequately arm most banana republics or overthrow any given nation in Africa, given an excuse, and don't cotton to the assclownery that regularly highlights the evening news. A road trip where family honor or sensibilities was involved would likely bear a strong resemblance to a cross between the landing at Iwo Jima, and Sherman's stroll from Atlanta to Savannah, and such is the case with any number of personal acquaintances' family ethics as well.
Personally, I'm rather amazed the offender's body in this case was even found, supposing that a trip to drop him off near a gator-filled pond or feral hog-inhabited woods would have solved a lot of potential problems and ended any official curiousity just this side of the nearest donut shop. Perhaps they were in a hurry, or skipped a chapter in the manual.

I have the feeling from reading a couple of reports that their first priority was extracting their sister and getting her to medical care, and enough Deputies and other witnesses showed up to make proceeding with the last 2 "S"s a little awkward.
That, or they know the local LE and Judicial system well enough to not worry about it and let county workers do the clean up for them.

The gunshots involved drew the attention of the local constabulary.

My younger sister still hasn't forgiven me for her lack of dating prospects in high school. It had much more to do with my reputation as a street brawler than her blonde/blue good looks
Her husband is currently testing my patience as he knows I don't want to make a 6 hour flight to Phoenix to administer a spanking. And my old man is approaching 80 in next-door Mesa, so I don't want him to get involved... If things approach any sort of level above mild verbal abuse, I'll be on the plane and he'll be sucking a curb with my foot on his neck.

From what I'm hearing it's been classified as justified. No one would convict anyway.
