Yeah, about that whole "shaker" thing.

Back in the day of points, plugs, and condenser I was taught that a properly tuned V8 engine shouldn't shake. My grandad would tune his engine, start it, then stand a nickel on edge on the air cleaner. If the nickel fell over, something wasn't right.

It's a cool visual styling cue, but the engine shouldn't shake.

Well, yeah. While revving it will shake. That's easy to explain. I used to love watching the old man rev that engine and watching it roll under the torque.

I find it humorous that the cars that have such large blind spots are what the sheriff's's department and police department all have here.

I've noticed some of the local agencies using them. The last Chrysler product I drove on-duty was a Plymouth Satellite back in the early '80s. The windows would pop out at 88 mph. Really great for a police car.

As well as a large V-8 with a 3/4 race cam in it, loping at idle.

I saw and heard an old Chevy Chevelle today, while sitting at a stop light, and as I listened to that big V-8 loping along at idle, I could only think of this post. As that BIG OLD V-8 took off (slowly), I could only grin and smile while that muscle car drove away, even though it needed work, I would have LOVED to have that big, powerful, LARGE BORE V-8 (in that car body), to call my own (regardless of the cost of gas - I would STILL LOVE to have that car!!!)!!!

Had that engine been equipped with a simple stock cam, I would have been simply happy. But since someone had loved that engine enough to put a larger cam in it, it sounded even better (although its gas mileage had probably radically decreased), I would have LOVED to be driving it (and/or owning it)!! At least as a SUNDAY driver!!! 8-) 8-) 8-) ;)

It's hard to argue with the deep-rumble of a true muscle-car!!

My Challenger, with its piddly stock 318, sounded absolutely awesome because it came (to me) with decent dual exhaust and Walker Continental glass pack mufflers. I still regret my uninformed decision to remove them and replace them with lesser mufflers (Thrush) that sounded like crap; I did not know what they were.

It didn't have the lope (being a stock cammed 2 barrel) but the tone.... ahhh the tone out the back was magical.

I picked up a pair of NOS Walker Continentals a few years ago for when the car goes back together. I may not keep them on but I'm going to give them a fair shake. The only glasspacks worth having.

I watched V8 top fuel dragsters go down the track a few times. I think the nickle would have had to be welded in place......
One secret to life. Step #1 - Find something you enjoy doing. Step #2 - Find someone foolish enough to pay you to do it.

8000hp will do that. 8-)
HTRN, I would tell you that you are an evil fucker, but you probably get that a lot ~ Netpackrat

Describing what HTRN does as "antics" is like describing the wreck of the Titanic as "a minor boating incident" ~ First Shirt
