Excuse the digression, but did you ever run into a guy named Hugh Moore? Only other tournament MtG player I know.

GW can suck it. I strolled through this joint last month. There were a few tables set up for mini gaming and a bunch of neckbeards and their tape measures running about. I took a look at some of the GW merch and the prices were higher than a giraffe's ass. I felt like I owed someone money for just having been in there. As for the tournament approved crap, where is the logical end? If I show up with a Barret .50 that I've painted "Heavy Bolter" on, do I win?

The hell with it. I like the Space Marine concept, but I was always a Battletech guy anyway.

Not that I remember. He's a professional player though isn't he? I got out of the game just as the actual professional players were starting to earn a living at the game.
Well he wanted to be a professional.

Friend of a good friend, he was a bit of a neer-do-well coasting through life waiting for his wealthy grandparents to die. I always found his adventures amusing. It would have been too weird if you knew him.

The fact that you can get by with cardboard counters certainly doesn't hurt, does it?

And I just spent 70 bucks on battletech maps thanks to you guys.

Honestly, I'm just waiting for GW to continue jacking up prices and wondering why sales are dropping until their inevitable collapse, and someone smarter snaps up the IP.

If that happens it'll likely be Privateer Press who, while less evil, will introduce their own brand of fuckery. It'll just be more from incompetence than the mustachio curling brand of greed we see from GW.

I'm also stripping the paint off of a bunch of 3025-era minis. Some (okay, all) of them desperately need it.

My favorite piece of course, is the Crescent Hawk edition of the Phoenix Hawk LAM that I got for finishing my old Commodore 64 version of Battletech.

What, that after a decade or so of ignoring a hobby that they'll come back to it while still doing other things with their lives?

No, that I have absolutely no clue what this thread is about - I followed the bits about stripping paint, but the rest is a total mystery.

Its a bit like if I started a thread about "tractor songs" or "jacking calves" or "fights with bull calves, won and lost." (Which could actually be fairly entraining.)

IOW, most of my friends I grew up with all found Patrick McManus absolutely hilarious. The city kids in college would look at the books, and never seemed to understand why it was so funny.
