I'm laying odds the working title in pre-production was "Vomit", until some exec decided that was a little to spot-on, and the name got changed to "The Purge".

Uhh...the writer and director have both explicitly said it was.

They failed miserably.

1st they built a world where the constitution has been usurped, and that is the cause for conflict. Next, this movie is so pro-2nd amendment that it is funny. Basically the plot is that you are not safe regardless of your income unless you have a gun. Finally, the villains are college students, and they are hardly portrayed as conservative. More like militant trust fund babies. The twist bad guys are motivated by communist goals, wanting to tear down those who have more than them.


The only good guy is a military man.


Now tell me how this is an indictment of conservatives.

I know you've told us before you're not a conservative. Now, I'm just curious, mind you, and not trying to start a fight, but how do you call yourself?

I am a "live and let live" social liberal, and a staunch believer in the constitution. I mistrust anyone in a position of authority, especially if that person uses that authority to be correct. An example of this is my distrust of those who like to toss the weight of the bible behind their policies, instead of arguing something on it's merits. I also feel quite strongly about personal responsibility.

It could be the director and others associated with the film had to say these things, as if you don't tow the political line in Hollywood, you suffer under a blacklist (when's the last time you saw John Voigt, Kelsey Gramar, or any other vocal conservative in a blockbuster Hollywood role?)
Still looks like a mostly crap film regardless of the political slant.
