Disagree on Congress electing President, It removes that check on Congressional power, as a President who Vetoes in the second half of his first term won't get a second term in the described setup.
Leave electoral Vote for President, but allow Splitting of vote by districting. Two votes go as the state as a whole goes. The rest go as the Congresscritter districts go.

my reasoning for the removal of direct presidential election is more to remove the 18 months to two years of campaigning that goes into the race... if they are elected by the congress, then the congress will be held accountable... if the congress gets a maximum of 4 years to serve, they will work harder to do a better job... and make the 4 year terms expire in the midterm of the presidential term... that way, the senators have to be in office for 2 years before they even get to pick the president...BobTheWitch wrote:Disagree on Congress electing President, It removes that check on Congressional power, as a President who Vetoes in the second half of his first term won't get a second term in the described setup.

sure some presidents might get tossed out of office... but if they are pissing their legislature off that much, then they deserve it dont they?

Problem is Pres should answer to populace, not legislators.
Anything that slows down law creation is good.
I actually liked the proposal from The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, requiring only a 1/3 minority to repeal any law, and a 2/3 majority to create any law

That's a prime minister... You need a check on the legislature -- the LAST thing we need is DC to be able to do more...mekender wrote:remove popular and electoral vote for president and VP...
President and VP are elected by the house and senate...
