I wonder if one could make the case that felonious conduct while in office constitutes a violation of the oath of office, and therefore treason?
Maybe if taking a bribe was a hanging offense, they'd cut that shit out.

It won't, not at all, you need to understand the way they think. They ALREADY believe they're our betters and worth far more than what they're being paid. Raising their pay to $3 million a year will only confirm their superiority feelings, enlarge their already super-inflated egos and create much more hostile (and possibly violent) elections.Weetabix wrote:Probably not. Do you REALLY think someone like Cynthia McKinney wouldn't think she isn't worth at least TWICE that amount?

POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.
I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

Sorry, I wasn't clear; I was saying we'd be unhappy if you didn't build it.SoupOrMan wrote:What's wrong with a Hot Chicks Room? Warren G. Harding did it!Dub_James wrote:We wouldn't be happy if you didn'tSoupOrMan wrote:With a nod to the Upright Citizens Brigade, I'd also install a Hot Chicks Room.

Would you be ready to RULE on day 1, though?
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

Close, but you need it to reflect what their constituents average. Some would get more, many would get much less.HTRN wrote:If they must be paid, it should be tied directly to census data. They should get EXACTLY what the average american makes, which, last time I looked, was about 42,000.

Mike,
It doesn't matter how many times I see those pictures, I never become immune. I laugh every time I see them.

Wow, I ignore a thread I started and someone posts a picture of the Green party candidate, someone pass the memory-bleach.
I don't have a problem with elected officials being paid, even paid well, for what they do. Like brain surgeons and proctologists, they (theoretically) do a job not many people could do or would want to do and it's a job that (arguably) needs to be done. No one complains when the exectutives of successful companies make lots of money, only when they make lots of money and the company fails due to incompetence or graft. The CEO makes a lot more than the guy who empties the wastebaskets, but there are a lot more capable wastebasket-emptiers than there are CEOs who can run a company successfully.
Both words in parentheses in the paragraph above are the problem, right now anyone lacking in ethical values COULD do the job our elected officials do, and most of those jobs don't need to be done as much as they are.
