I have an idea for using old brass to make "jewelry".
I will need to solder or weld the brass together after trimming it. What would the best way to do that be?
I am not a welder - so tig or mig is NOT my best option if there are other ways. The brass and the solder/weld will be in contact with human flesh so that is a consideration.

Clean brass should solder well, using a good flux and a GP solder, with or without lead. If skin contact is a concern, I suppose you could silver solder it.

ok that is what I was hoping to hear.
thanks.
Now I need to figure out how to easily get one each caliber to neck down so it will slip into the mouth of the other for easy soldering.
thanks.

If the brass is in contact with skin, won't it turn the skin green?

Re: solder / welding brass
thanks.
and oops the internet ate my last reply.
Clear coat was what I asked about. so thanks Denis.
The "jewelry" in this case is gauges for the ears. I think they are horrific, but they are the cool thing of the decade and who am I not to profit off other peoples stupidity. PT Barnum and all.
I figure I can make them from centerfire brass. Say starting with .17 and running up to .50 bmg. Remove the primer and put a semi precious stone in its place... might even be able to get the hippies to finance a Garand for me.

This sounds like another one of those things of which I should not ask for a translation, nor do a Google image search upon.Precision wrote:The "jewelry" in this case is gauges for the ears.

Feeling nauseous now. Also wondering if clear-coat is going to cut it for that application. You might need to consider nickel, silver or gold-plating for hygenic reasons (but remember there are people with nickel allergies).Precision wrote:The "jewelry" in this case is gauges for the ears.
