The well is in Florida within 20 miles of the coast. The water is naturally this saline in some areas. Shallow wells provide sweet water but at low volumes and this site already has this deep artesian well.

For budgeting purposes we are writing in a 1000gpd RO system and a 2-4000 gallons of reserve tank. We are still investigating how best to work this. My go looking for a used RO system in this capacity range.

I am thinking a welded shut cargo container, line-x on the inside and out as the reserve tank. A 20 ft container dug into the ground would be supported enough and would hold +/- 10k gallons of water.

for that much work and expense might be able to shoot a shotcrete/gunite cistern (pool w/out all the finishing).

Yeah - plus 1 on looking at concrete or fiberglass tanks - not sure how long metal while last.

On the intrawebs, some guy put one (upside down with bottom cut off) in the ground as an in ground lap pool and even with the chlorine (no line-x) got 5-6 years without major leaks.

It all really depends on pricing and size of the reservoir we decide is needed.

They have a 600-15000 gallon per day desalination system for brackish water which looks interesting - it might work out cheaper than building a tank, etc.

Something to checkin to is a water softner they remove some salts and given your low volume it might work, also if you have sufficient water flow/preasure a semi permiable membrane might do the trick.

I have seen a sand and gravel bed used with good success in cabins here, really a good way to get most of the particulates and nastys out of your water another possibility.

We are in the holding stage right now. We have a couple of people looking to fund the operation, but since more than one land option is on the table...

I really want to do a holistic system.

Use geothermal for our air and heating needs and the waste heat used as a preheater for a solar distillation setup. That will likely happen on our permanent facility, but we are probably going to a an interim property for the next 2-3 years and that will probably by a conventional FO or RO system.
