Watches, bad trends, and what should I buy?

Vostok amphibia at the moment, and its been a year and I haven't killed it yet. I tend to be very hard on watches, so I can't spend too much or I cry when I kill it.

Most memorable watch I owned was a G-shock back in the Corps. It took a lot of abuse before dying five years later.
Currently I have a Luminox F-22 because it's about as close to what I Ideally want in a watch (Atomic clock, solar powered and recessed face would make it perfect).

Meh. It's faster to look at your wrist. And I haven't seen a cell phone yet that can be submerged over 5-10ft.

I wear a Casio G-shock classic: DW-5600. I actually use the stop watch and elapsed time functions, not just the alarm.

I've got one of the Casio G-Shock digital watches 2688 (?). It is solar powered, gets time corrections by radio from the atomic clock, water resistant to 200m, sets it self automatically for daylight savings time, and has the longest lasting strap I've ever had on a watch. For some reason I've kept it set on 24 hour time. The thing is I wanted all those features on an analog display or one of the Seiko kinetic analog watches, but I've grown superstitious. Anytime I've had a nice analog something happens to it so I put off buying an upgrade. I keep waiting for this Casio to expire but it just wont.

In the same vein, I've got a couple of cheap knives that I always seem to have on me, but when I have an expensive one I either loose it or break it....??? Must be some kind of curse.

All my digital watches for the past 25+ years have been set to 24 hour time when it was an option. It just makes much more sense to me as a time system.

Oh, I still have a pocket watch too (15-year service award from a now-former employer, pretty decent outfit), but the only time I wear it is when I'm wearing a weskit.

I keep waiting for this Casio to expire but it just wont.

My DW-200 failed when a battery change damaged the o-ring in the back and water leaked in. After drying, it worked fine but the silk-screen on the crystal was damaged, and it took a long time to find the right o-ring. But its back together and works like new, even the little incandescent bulb still works, and it hasn't leaked. ~1984 to present, worn 23 years straight, several band and battery replacements, one noticeable but minor repair. Other than the little bulb I bet I could start wearing it again and it would last the rest of my life. But I like my G-Shock enough that I'm still wearing it.

Seriously, Casio watches, especially the Japanese made ones, are on that list of things that "just works" and keeps on "just working"; serious shit needs to happen to them for that to change.

Daily, knock around, is a Timex solar powered watch. Cheap and reliable. For trade shows and more formal occasions it's either the Fauxmega DeVille or a Tudor Oyster Prince. I'm a fan of Omega and Rolex as well as IWC and Breitling. Though I have been lusting after one of the Marathon divers watches. http://marathonwatch.com/product/divers-automatic
