I watched Prometheus recently, which is an Alien prequel ( don't think that needs a spoiler tag ? ) - it was pretty good IMO, but there were some plot holes which it was best not to think too hard about. It's a bit more thoughtful than the Alien series, but still with a fair amount of action.

Apollo 18 was a huge disappointment for me. They could have done so much more with that concept. I agree with you on the monster.

Ghosts of Mars is a good movie.

If you like old ones, how about "The Blob"? or the Attack of the Jello Monster with Steve McQueen.

The monsters that always got to me was the human ones, like Norman Bates. There was a movie I saw when I was a teenager that really got to me and that was "I saw what you did and I know who you are". I only found out years later that the bad guys were the Carradine boys.

This film is really a turd, but get some tall glasses of adult beverage and munchies and settle in for Galaxy of Terror. The worm-tentacle-rape scene alone is worth it!

That leaves Battle Beyond the Stars but not much horror in that. Still enjoyable in the right chemically-altered state of mind.

Watched it yesterday. Pretty good. I don't seem to have raisable hackles but enjoyed it a lot.

Are you including animation/cartoons?

If so, the ORIGINAL Jonny Quest series is decent fiction - ESPECIALLY in relation to the other cartoons of that period (politically correct too, and it didn't rub your face in it).

If you're going to go the Johnny Quest route you really should follow that up with The Venture Brothers.
