The Hell Raiser series is disturbing, also. But for pure horror, "The Grudge" does it for me; still sends shivers down my spine and I've seen it a half-dozen times.Highspeed wrote:OK, Event Horizon it is.

I've always had a soft spot for the original Phantasm. I first saw it in an honest to goodness theater.
I was also really creeped out by Dawn of the Dead. For a while it made me really not like the mall....
And try Cube and at least the first sequel.

Return of the Living Dead is my favorite zombie movie. It's very funny. It's basically New Wave punks vs zombies. ROTLD2 sucks, don't bother. I liked ROTLD3, it features a young Mindy/Melinda Clark as the hottest dead check ever!

It's also set in Louisville, KY. We do zombies right around here.Darrell wrote:Return of the Living Dead is my favorite zombie movie. It's very funny. It's basically New Wave punks vs zombies. Yes, Mindy Clark in #3...she makes me warm.

There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.

Hardware, with a cameo appearance by Lemmy as a taxi driver.

A boy and his dog, which I suspect was entirely setup for the very bad pun at the very end of the film.

It didn't even really make with the grossing out. I describe it as, "Two hours of eerie music, creepy camera angle, PSYCH! Eerie music, creepy camera angle, PSYCH! Eerie music, creepy camera angle, OOOGAH-BOOGAH-BOOGA! ARE YOU NOT TERRIFIED?!?"MarkD wrote:I saw Event Horizon in the movie theater, and I HATED it. I thought it would be scary, but it reminded me of a Stephen King quote where he said that he believed the highest emotion he could bring forth was to horrify, so that's what he tried to do. If he found he couldn't horrify, he tried to terrify. If he found he couldn't terrify, he wasn't proud, he'd go for the gross-out. Event Horizon COULD have been a horrifying movie, but instead it just went for the gross-out every time.Steamforger wrote:"Event Horizon" makes me very uncomfortable. "Outland" is a classic. "Moon" was very good, but it was a slow building tension.

I kind of liked 1999 version of The Haunting. They pulled off some subtle & creepy stuff in that one.

For horror, any speech by Charles Schumer or Nancy Pelosi. On the other hand, there are some things that nobody should subject themselves to.
