On Concerns Over Gun Control, Gun Sales Are Up

DENVER — Sales of handguns, rifles and ammunition have surged in the last week, according to gun store owners around the nation who describe a wave of buyers concerned that an Obama administration will curtail their right to bear arms.

“He’s a gun-snatcher,” said Jim Pruett, owner of Jim Pruett’s Guns and Ammo in northwest Houston, which was packed with shoppers on Thursday.

“He wants to take our guns from us and create a socialist society policed by his own police force,” added Mr. Pruett, a former radio personality, of President-elect Barack Obama.

Mr. Pruett said that sales last Saturday, just before Election Day, ran about seven times higher than a typical good Saturday.

It's not only in the NYFT, this is from the AP wire:
Gun sales soar with Obama election

11/12/2008
Associated Press

Faster than a speeding bullet, rifles and handguns have been flying off the shelves here and across the country since Barack Obama won the presidential election.

"Gun sales doubled Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday last week, and we've sold out of a lot of the guns we normally have in stock," said Jim King, sporting goods manager at Thatcher's Ace Hardware in Baker City, which still retains a tinge of its Wild West boomtown origins.

One of the more popular Dealers-of-Death-and-Destruction here locally said that on Thursday after the election, he did $50,000+ in sales before noon. (That's an average month's business for him) and there is no 5.56, 7.62x39 or 7.62x51 to be had in the area. Also, just about every 12 ga, and most of the 20 ga pump and auto shotguns are gone, as is all the buckshot, of all sizes.

Glad I've stocked up on components!

Was just at my evil empire emporium talking to the grand poobah of boom. He had a woman come in yesterday, a regular customer, who bought EVERY round of .38, .357, .357 SIG, .40, .45, .308, and 5.56 he had. Over 4000 bucks. A guy walked in and bought a bushmaster while we were chatting.

On another note, he says that he's getting word (from many sources in and out of law enforcement) that there is concern that a civil war is coming. The problem is, it's most likely going to be the Aryan Brotherhood on one side. Of course I took this info with a grain of salt.

I have my doubts, sorta, about a civil war, but I really doubt the NAZIs will play too big a part, other than possibly starting it. Even living in the South, there simply aren't really too many of those idiots anymore... That, and the Klan types probably won't get along too much w. the NAZI types...

There's still plenty of bigotry, but, it doesn't really seem to have enough hatred behind it to support that kind of stuff. (I imagine most Southerners are related to a mixed race couple by now/or have been, or are, part of one.)

I am of the mind that these rumors of civil war are going to be used as the impetus to begin registration and confiscation...you know, to nip that whole civil war in the bud before it can happen. Public safety measure and all that. I honestly have heard nothing regarding civil war from anybody in the RKBA community that I know or know of so I am going to assume that these rumors are being fed from other circles...namely the antis. Maybe I'm wrong and these rumors just haven't made it to Arizona yet. I am watching very carefully what is going on in the news and wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see a situation right out of the book "Enemies Foreign And Domestic" to pop up. Something like that and the rumors of a supposed civil war and you can damn sure count on .gov men to come knocking at your door.

I have heard many of my customers talking about it. The most interesting conversation was with a middle aged housewife / recovering lawyer. When she found out about my interest in liberty and gun ownership, she started grilling me about what I would recommend. I offered to take her and her husband shooting, but like every other person I have made the offer to, they never called back.

Her take on it was much like what many other people have said, there will be no mason dixon line, there will be no clear sides, and it will be the ugliest war America has ever seen. The simple fact that there will be no uniforms to determine friend from foe will make it hell on anyone who lives here during that period.

I'm still convinced that this is a rumor started by one of the anti organizations and perhaps it is being run with by foolish uninformed new to the party patriots. This whole thing goes into the same barrel as the "don't worry about an Obama presidency...if he actually does get elected eh will get popped within the first year" theory. Now that one I have heard by a multiple of different parties...republican AND democrat. And I'm not buying that either...nor would I ever wish for it to happen. Hell, I didn't vote for the guy and I damn sure don't want him to be president, but I certainly don't want him hurt...much less dead. I'm not real keen on the idea of Joe Biden as president either!

Now having said all that, let's go on the assumption that there really is something to the whole "civil war" rumor. All these folks talking about it...are they saying "WHY"? I mean during the whole illegal immigration flap over the last two years there were pockets of folks (particularly in the border states) who believed that it was possible that this could spark a civil war if something wasn't done about it. Well, nothing has been done (nor will it ever) and so far there haven't been any shots fired. Is it because Obama is black (half black to be more precise)? That ain't gonna start any kind of war. It might get the KKK or Aryan Brotherhood or the Skin Heads a little uptight, but war? Come on. That ain't gonna happen. Most white folks don't like these groups and if they started something over the color of Obama's skin the white folks would smack them down. Gun control? Please! It has been going on for years and nobody has done shit about it except bitch about it on the internet! If they passed a registration law tomorrow 95% of gun owners would go along with it...they wouldn't be happy about it but they would do it anyway. Most of what is left over would do it when the .gov threatens them with their freedom (imprisonment). Yeah, that includes most of these folks who are currently snatching up EBRs and all the ammo they can find...they will fold like a cheap suit. So again I ask, where is this civil war coming from? Honestly it just doesn't pass the smell test and, as much as it might sound tin foily, it still sounds more like a rumor started by the antis to get folks riled up enough for the .gov to step in and protect us from ourselves. Another thing, these folks who are getting prepared for the upcoming civil war, who do they think believe they will be fighting against? There has to be some kind of sides or there will be no need to fight. If they think that there is going to be a spate of wanton killing going on that isn't civil war but simple anarchy and barbarism...but it all comes back around to "WHY". Why a nation wide killing spree (and who will be doing it for that matter)?

I'm not saying that these rumors don't exist, it's that they just don't make sense other than my theory that it is a ruse by the antis to get the registration/confiscation ball rolling. If I'm wrong then please tell me what I seem to be missing.

Quiet Man: Your not missing anything.. There will be no civil war.

Possibly some jackoff Aryan will get in a shoot out with a Berret wearing Black Panther. Both will die and society will be better off without both of them.

QM, you are spot on... especially how the vast majority of gun owners would give up their guns easily and with out much fuss

above all, we gun owners pride ourselves in being law abiding... most of us would obey the law if it were passed and then go on to fight the hell out of it through the proper channels.
