I am open minded, where exactly is the propaganda you refer to? I am watching the seasons right now, and I just don't see it. There is some heavy handed environmentalism in the poison ivy episodes, as well as catwoman's conservation fetish, but hardly to the level of propaganda.

It's been nearly 20 years... But the thing I read about, was an episode where guns were being "smuggled" from VA to some other state with nasty restrictions. This was about the time the "one gun a month" thing was going through. I never actually watched it. I read about it on rec.guns... Which is dating myself a bit.

That wasn't an episdoe of Batman the Animated Series. It was a one issue comic entitled, "Batman: Seduction of the Gun", which dealt with that issue.

I own the first two seasons of Batman the Animated Series, and need to pick up season three. Thanks for the reminder, Yogi. All the Bruce Timm series (Batman:TAS, Batman Beyond, and the Justice League) are good. If you have young kids, Batman: Brave and the Bold is a good choice, but still enjoyable by adults.

I grew up a big Batman fan; collected all the monthly titles up to about six years ago. In the seventies and early eighties, most writers set Batman's attitude towards gun use in the range between hating the use of guns to freezing up when put in the situation of having to use one. This was explained as Bruce Wayne's reaction to having seen his parents gunned down as a child. In the first Batman comics, Bob Kane had Batman carry and use a sidearm. He also had a machine gun mounted on his Batplane, which he used to kill some of his adviseries. He would break criminals necks and throw them off buildings. In the first comic in which Robin appears, he kicks a criminal off a sky scraper to his death.

My favorite episode was "The Forgotten", where batman was captured and sent to a work camp of kidnapped homeless folks.

As far as gun issues, I haven't seen any yet. While batman doesn't use guns in this, Bruce Wayne owns several...

"Knight Time" is the one I remember the best - Wayne is kidnapped, so the boy wonder is forced to find a substitute Batman until he can find the real deal. Cue the Man of Steel wearing the cowl. The best part? Watching him whip Bane's ass.

It was an idle comment about something I remembered reading years ago. Searching hasn't revealed what I actually read, and I don't care enough to spend any more time on it, given the above.
