Missed the first season of "Vegas" because it conflicted with SOA. Watching it now on Tivo. Just finished the last season of "Mrs. Browns boys" and waiting for the next. I did have to download that one, since BBC America doesn't air it.

Swanson is about the only thing on that show worth watching. The rest of it? Like fingernails on a blackboard.

Thankfully, Youtube is rife with "best of" clips.

My wife hadn't seen any episodes of DS9, so we started from the beginning on Netflix. Now she's bugging me to watch them, so I think I got her hooked.

Finished episode 2 of Season 2 of Fringe. And have the next 2 seaons on Blu-Ray.

About the only thing I watch on TV anymore is baseball or hockey (and that's working out great right now, let me tell you! ). I never got sucked into "must-see" tv shows after 1989. Oddly enough, 1989 is when I started regularly working nights where tv sets weren't available.

I've tried to sit down and watch tv shows through Netflix and such, but every time I do I find myself turning it off 15 minutes into the episode and going back to MMOs when sports aren't on. Yes, and this is with both must-see and lesser-known shows. To wit:

Firefly: came home after work in 2002, and due to my shift being weird I only saw the last ten minutes of the show where the guy gets kicked into the engine and thought "Okay. Glad to see a captain who doesn't screw around. I'm sure the series will be a success for Fox. Now, to get ready for gaming." I've had no desire to see the series since then. This lack of interest in the show also caused a mild uproar in my gaming group.

Wonderfalls: Thought it was cute and quirky, and the next week it's replaced. Never had any desire to see it again.

Mad Men: I love the late 1950s-early 1960s look. I watched two episodes with my parents and said "So that's that. Okay, next."

The Shield: Can't get into it. Okay, bent cop, byzantine intrigue, blah blah blah.

The Wire: Never looked into this. It was about cops and drugs I guess.

Breaking Bad: Guy gets screwed over by The System, breaks the law to take care of his family, goes down the path of moral degeneration as he realizes how much money he can make. Okay, next.

The Sopranos: Gangsters. Yep. Italian-heritage guys in leather jackets killing each other.

Sons of Anarchy: Bikers. Eh.

Dexter: Oh yay. A serial killer, but he's one of the good guys! Really! One episode, I kept checking Twitter for baseball scores at the time.

Deadwood: Cowboys dropping f-bombs, being gritty and 1800s-esque. Meh.

The Office: Never watched it, British or US versions. Heard it's funny.

Community: Never watched it. Surprised to find out how much Chevy Chase has aged. Still don't care to watch it.

Parks & Rec: Nope.

Why don't they capture my attention like sports? I have been trying to figure out why I don't get dragged into the shows. I used to be able to sit down and watch shows, now it's no good. Maybe I've just given up on the entertainment community and I'm just waiting for them to be blotted out of existence with a meteor or something. I don't know.

The inability to watch tv shows other than live sports been one of the main reasons I haven't bought a television or subscribed to cable since I was able to move back out on my own again. Since I can get radio broadcasts via the internet now, I can follow sports pretty much at any time while doing other things.

I want to enjoy this stuff like everyone else, but it does nothing for me. Faking interest doesn't work (as watching Downton Abbey with my folks has proven). What the hell is going on here? Any ideas?

I dunno. Not that these are Shakespeare but they have lot of Shakespearean tragedy themes running through them. I think that's the appeal in them for some folks (unknowingly).

SOA? Jax isn't Hamlet but then again, there's that Mother/Father/Uncle/betrayal thing going on...

Breaking Bad? Hmmm, first rule of holes? Stop digging. MacBeth, or any other tragic figure of the Bard come to mind?
