not to mention the kitchen in the P3...

In the E2 we had to settle for the Radar WRA-37 Filament Pwr Supply as a warming oven for sliders.

I'll cut you off right there. I know you can cook. I would never argue that fact. I will however ADD to this statement. If SOMEONE were making rice as a side dish to chicken, cook or steam it in chicken broth(sorry Chris, my explanation is less geek like). It takes on the flavor of the chicken/salt(bulion) and causes it to compliment the main ingredient. If you really want to learn how to cook rice, learn to make Arroz con Pollo. Rice that is the proper consistency for "AcP" goes well with any meal, the seasoning is just different.

I like "chinese" sticky rice. I like Risotto. But rice prepared for a traditional Spanish dish, has been the best rice I've ever had. And if you've only had store bought "yellow" rice(zataranz), jump on google and learn how to use Sazon. IT F'N ROCKS!

Nope, didn't miss a bit of it. Just tried to condense it down for those here who can't make it through 1500 words/6 paragraphs. You know I kid, as I do read all of it and refer back to it often. But you know full well that some of the members here and even some of your regular readers suddenly hit a TLDNR moment :D

I was very fortunate as a kid - or not, considering how many extra pounds I'm packing - but both my parents were excellent cooks. My mother was quite skilled at making good meals cheaply as well, with a lot of variety.
A gun is a tool, Marian; no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.

It's not red beans and rice, but it's close enough; and it takes maybe ten minutes of prep, and 20-30 minutes of total cook time.
My sister sometimes makes what she calls 'dirty rice', which is rather like that.
That's not really traditional dirty rice......however, there literally hundreds of dirty rice recipes. Often chicken livers are included.

Luckily, both of my parents are very good cooks although with very different styles. Dad is very Northern German with an eclectic mix of everything else, Mom is country German filtered through about 100 years of livving in the US (squirrel with spetzle is family recipe). They had us kids cook a lot too, so my siblings and I all cook, although we ended up picking up different specialties.

Money was always tight, but we ate well because it is a lot cheaper to buy meat and vegetables than prepared food. We especially ate a lot of salads, augmented by my Dad's garden in the summer.

My wife's mother is/was a lousy cook, but she overcame that and turned herself into a very good one. She is especially good with baking cakes/cookies/ect. Which is good because I only bake bread.

The result is that our kids eat well, something that they have realized as they went out and visited other families.

Oddly, my oldest daughter hates cooking and sucks at it. Not sure what went wrong there.

Btw - pickled herring is awesome. Smoked herring too. My kids and I eat it, the wife is grossed out by it though.

Funny, this thread nearly inspired me to get a jar of pickled herring over the weekend, but I decided to be nice to my wife and leave it in the store.

I'm not willing to believe you, but I will concede that my night with pickled herring also involved Aqua Vit, er... and a geriatric stripper that one of my friends had show up as a joke...

And you blame the herring.

I didn't know what aqua vitae was, but google took care of that. I recall seeing some folks on the trip to Italy a couple years ago who were drinking grappa. They didn't look too good the next morning.
