I occasionally hear about accidents like that. There was also an incident a few years ago where a couple of guys apparently decided to go for a midnight swim in a local river, even though it was cold, deep, and had a heavy current.

Did they wear cement boots?

Not that I heard, though I'm not sure if they ever found the bodies. The river was very difficult to reach by shore, there's lots of vegetation around it. So they had parked their car by the bridge over it, tied a rope to the side of the bridge and climbed down to the water. No idea why they got that idea.
I think the cops wrote it off as an accidental death.

I can't think of anyone I would want to kill, which is pretty reassuring regarding my mental health :D
I can't even think of anyone I dislike ( and actually know personally )

I did have a plan for disposing of a body back in the UK ( no way was I going take a chance with the legal system if I shot a burglar ) - but I'll keep it to myself if that's OK ;)

I just watched "Killer Elite" the other night in which Jason Statham is coerced into killing three special forces soldiers. Each must appear accidental and each must confess to crimes before dying.
One was carried out with a hammer covered with ceramic tiles that matched the tiles in the victims bathroom.
By making it appear accidental you don't have to worry about disposing of the body.
If time, chance and random process can produce a platypus why not an ammo tree?

Just reminded me of a novel, where a spy ring get information by using swallows, and when kill the sources to make sure none of them reports it. Their preferable method to do this is by staging a weird sex act gone terribly wrong, thinking no one will want to look into it too carefully.

You guys are all making it too complicated. It's someone you don't know, and he's > 40 miles away.

Walk up to the guy when he's isolated, holding your phone in front of you with a puzzled look. "Can you help me find XX?" A ball peen hammer, and Shank's mares will do the rest. Drop the hammer in a lake.

Make sure you kept your phone turned off the whole way. Make sure you don't have an EZ pass that gets triggered or drive through some place that photographs license plates.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

What if "40 miles away" means "downtown Biggsville"? :P

Yeah... that's been done in real life... quite a lot actually.
MI5 or MI6 operative died last year in mysterious circumstances - zipped himself into a holdall ( apparently ) and suffocated.
One theory was some kind of sex game gone bad.
