New Old Fords

Post by Darrell »

I ran across this news via Insty: Dennis Carpenter is selling new production 1940 Ford coupe bodies with Ford's blessing. Prices range from ~$11K for a body without doors, etc, up to $15K for full bodies w/doors and panels. They're even offering the option of standard or recessed firewalls for hot rodders wanting to drop big engines into their projects:

Pics at the link above, looks nice.

This is the same guy selling new production '65 and '67 Mustang bodies. The new bodies are produced using modern techniques, and are rustproofed. I thought I read somewhere that '32s are planned as well. If I wanted to build a hot rod, I'd be all over that.

I'd prefer a '32 roadster myself, but a '34 3-window coupe (hat tip: Dad*, requiescat in pace) would be pretty sweet.

*Dad was big on '34 3-winders, though his all-time favorite was the '33 Willys. Got to see a '33 run at Dragway 42 last July.

Pretty much like how you can build a Ruger 10-22 with no parts from Ruger.

Dynacorn also makes 70 Chevelles, first gen firebirds, E body Challengers.

The thing is, alot of these don't have all the little bits and bobs available, and in the case of the Challengers, what is tends to be pricey.

I'd give Yogi's left testicle for a '67 Mustang or a Camaro

I'd give one of my own testicles for a Porsche 917 :D

I have a '66 in pretty good condition (some rust, it is Florida), blue printed engine and some brake upgrades as well. But under NO (read as ZERO) circumstances will I trade it for either of Yogi's testicles.

Brakes as in " don't work at all " upgraded to " work sometimes, maybe " ?

The Mustang I owned had a braking system designed by Satan. It had TWO servo's (why ? )
At low speeds you had to exercise vernier control on the pedal or it would stop so quickly that your eyeballs would be jerked out of their sockets.
At velocities over 30mph however you needed both feet on the pedal and a recitation of the Lords Prayer in order to stop the fucking thing. I can't really describe the handling, mostly we drove it sideways.

I did like the way it would smoke the tires at 70 mph, but with the tuned engine we were getting about 5 miles per gallon.
In the end I swapped it for two V-6 Ford Capri's, an oxy acetylene welding set, a chain hoist and a sawn off 12G shotgun
