Haven't paid any attention to the LED units, til last night that is.
Moving some stuff around in the house this week. Opened up the closest in the MBdrm to expose a wall (added a walk in several years ago) and plan to move the existing Cabinet/bookcase/32" LCD unit in there. Been sleeping with fans in the room trying accelerate drywall mud and texture drying. Finally got the primer and first coat on today.
Was planning on new 40-47" LCD unit on simple corner table stand for the living room. Went on a "date" night the spousal unit and tape measure intending to agree/negotiate acceptable range of display sizes.
A Samsung LED unit at Costco stopped me in my tracks. Nice. 46" with the bells and whistles (embedded WiFi yadda yadda). What a great job of packaging/industrial design. Thin? Crazy thin. Throw in a new Blu-Ray player in a package deal? How'd you know my DVD player was getting futzy? Oh boy, this is gonna cost me a couple hunnert more than I planned on.

Don't make the mistake of going too small. I did on my first one years ago. That's what she said Thankfully Costco has a great return policy.

Thanks for the link. Guess I'll have to pass on the 70" screen this time around.

A good rule of thumb is 1 inch of screen for every 2 inchs of distance.rightisright wrote:Don't make the mistake of going too small.
Not necessary, although I would put in black out blinds.Yogimus wrote:Board up that window.

After you've been around BE603 for more than 10 minutes you'll know that, if there's daylight, he's outside working, not inside watching TV.Yogimus wrote:Board up that window.

oh my... went 'n did it. Did my part for the velocity of money and Bernacke/Obama economy today.
set it up temporarily in the living room. still need to move the big old center cabinet to the bedroom. got it learning channels now. tick tock goes the clock. The remodeled wall space in the MBdrm is complete enough to move it tomorrow (I hope). Still have to patch hard wood floor where the closet wall was pulled back. That can wait till later. I'll have the floor patched and refinished when we get a long weekend out of town and leave the house to the floor guy (and his dust/fumes).

Old cabinet and tv relocation to the MBdrm fine'.
Now to wire up the receiver/surround in the living room to the new tube... Need some wire -- with the bookcases out of the room I finally have room to put that subwoofer behind the couch or recliner.
Whew... Getting that center cabinet into the back of the house and around corners in narrow old hallway/doors was a near thing. Used up some favors with a couple neighbors on near 100F day to make that move. Now to wire up the receiver/surround in the living room to the new tube... Yeah, I know, I know.... That corner and base could easily have handled a a 55" unit. The natives are happy (for now) so leaving well enough alone.
When the Triniton CRT* in the back family/computer/music room croaks I may move this 46" back there and see if I can get a 55" for less than this 46" for this spot.
*as if. That thing is going to live forever. Money well spent on a Sony in '97.
