I've war gamed this scenario for years now (ever since Columbine probably). In the situation I'm currently in, my best chance is to try to stay out of sight until I can get a clear, undetected approach then engage with something large/hard/heavy. There are a couple people here I would trust enough to work with, and a couple others who would probably offer to show the shooter where everyone is hiding in return for not being shot themselves.
those are the ones to use the claw hammer on FIRST.

I will NEVER understand that mentality...

My current reality is working in a school (disarmed citizen zone) with 50+ kids. Some of those kids are quite likely to be the one acting like a tard or causing some gangbanger to come in looking for them. We've had a firearm threat on campus on two separate occasions, but bluff and bluster scared them off.

My current plan is to get myself set up as the SRO (school resource officer) so I can legally carry on campus. Then my moving towards the attacker might do something other than buying a few extra seconds for the kids to escape.

Until that comes through, I have a 3" knife and a couple of kids who can probably be trusted to herd the sheeple kids where I direct them. Sucky plan but better then none.

Sadly enough, there are always collaborators. In my experience, these are also the ones who look on you with disdain when they find out you choose to train and carry. Cowardice disguised as moral superiority and all that...
There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.

I was thinking more in terms of blocking access to my area. I my particular situation at that time, the stairwell was right next to my part of the cubical farm. Having dropped the hose down to stairwell to block someone coming up, there was a ladder with roof access to go up, and other areas to re-enter/exit the building from there. YMMV depending on the geometry of your architecture and other environmental items.

basically I was just throwing things out to keep folks thinking.
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

Inside a building? Maybe not such a great solution....

Do what Border Patrol agents are trained to do and run away?

I took the same training. You dont know what its about AT ALL. (EDIT) _> The training is for situations when you are un-armed, and the border patrol consists of more support than actual armed agents. The training IS valid, and IS effective in neutralizing casualties. It has been used in the military for a while now, and was used in afghanistan several times.
