How to handle cops at your door...

Post by Aglifter »

OK, I could have been given this advice for various reasons,* but one of the local detectives suggested that if I ever see some cops at the door, I should ask for badge numbers, call 911 and verify that someone is there to arrest me.

He gave no weight that the man would be wearing a uniform, and said that there would always be a patrol car visible.

*BFE is only a couple hours from the border, w. a major drug corridor, and lots of meth production

I know several local cops, including the local "SWAT" team, so if I was going to be arrested, one of them would probably be there.

I have no criminal history, or inclination toward one, etc.

Is this normal/a suggested way of acting?

Possibly the detective was giving you a hint that all was not well within the local PD, without coming right out and saying they had dirty cops like Denver and Detroit had.

Of course, that could be my overactive imagination at work again.

I think it would be fair to yell through the door that you're calling 911 to verify their identity. If they pull the door off the hinges with a milsurp armored personnel carrier on loan from Homeland Security, then I guess it didn't cost you anything to dial the call.
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

Until the government changes the laws. What was legal activity yesterday could become illegal tomorrow and vice-versa.

Case in point -- I lived in the PRK for a few years. Nothing I ever did was remotely criminal -- I even paid all my parking tickets. I purchased an AR15 in 1987. In 1989, the law changed -- Roberti-Roos Bill of 1989. If I didn't remove my AR15 from the state by the end of 1990 (I did, and followed it a couple of years later), I would have been a felon.

If PRK-style laws get rolled out nation-wide (per the Obama-nation) where are you going to go?

I already now there are bad local cops... so does the detective. Frankly, I assume all departments have bad cops, but some of that prejudice comes from family in the Northeast*.

*You never, ever trust a cop in PA, NJ, NY, MA, etc. Maybe some small town LEOs in those states, but not any in the urban areas.

Which will be allied with the newly formed Republic of Kentucky, I'm sure. GASP! A new Confederacy? No, not a new Confederate thread! I don't want to start another one of those!!!
There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.
