Dies The Fire and all sequels by S. M. Stirling.
Looks like the story was ripped off for the new Fall series "Revolutions".
Billions die when electricity stops flowing. Also, firearms, explosives, internal- and external-combustion engines will no longer function due to a shift in basic physical laws. No zombies, but watch out for cannibal "eaters".

I kinda like the Chtorr series, because it shows Humanity slowly loosing, inch by inch to an invading alien ecosystem. I just wish Gerold would finally release the last 3 books.

One Second After, by William R. Forstchen. Pretty good read, fairly realistic.

This one is definitely my choice because it could actually happen. Sometime soon.JAG2955 wrote:One Second After, by William R. Forstchen. Pretty good read, fairly realistic.

I'd almost forgotten those, it's been so long since I've read them. Wonder if I still have them around somewhere?Greg wrote:For post-apolalyptic fun, I suggest the Horseclans books. Keep you busy for a while.

Definitely have to check out some of these...
Let me throw in another vote for the Dies the Fire series, though last book released was rather dissapointing.
Also Directive 51 and Daybreak Zero by John Barnes are pretty good.

Lights Out by HalfFast, PDF everywhere online.
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

Not quite everywhere. I think he got himself a book or movie deal, and pulled the free version.workinwifdakids wrote:Lights Out by HalfFast, PDF everywhere online.
Great read, though.
One of the first post-apocalyptic books I read was in the fantasy genre, Ariel by Stephen Boyett. That was back in the 80's, when I was in high school, though, so like a lot of stuff from back then, it might not be as good as I remember it.

I read that when I was 8, and still remember it as well as any book I've ever read.Cybrludite wrote: "The Girl Who Owned A City" by O. T. Nelson
