Hotmail Email Problems, virus?

Post by scipioafricanus »

Running a Mac 10.6.8, Wi Fi from Airport (password protected)

So about 2-3 weeks ago, I woke up to find my hotmail account was flagged for being hacked. It sent out a couple of emails to a few of my contacts, and hotmail shut it down. Got it back and changed my password. Ran multiple virus scans with Nortons and Sophos, but found nothing. So a little piss off, but no harm scene.

Until it did it again yesterday... changed my password again, although it was not flagged by hotmail. More scans and nothing. Got VirusBarrier X6 too and nothing (so 3 Mac virus programs now).

I am not that tech savy, thus the Mac. Can anyone tell me what is wrong?

Are you sure the mails were actually sent from the account, instead of spoofing the address?
Do you use your hotmail account and/or password anywhere else?

I used the two sparingly for a few things. The new one is now original. The emails showed up in my sent file, and a couple bounced back being undeliverable.

The antivirus programs may not find all malware or trojans. Try changing the pw from another computer (make sure you dont save it on that computer) and then get a program that checks for trojans and malware. I've used a few free ones, but cant recall which ones right now. Maybe someone else can recommend something.
A lot of people use 'Hijack this' to create logs you can check for malware, but I dont have much experience with it.
