The main issue is that in most businesses, there's little difference between the majority shareholder and the "boss." Given Dan Cooper's apparent stupidity, I wouldn't be surprised if whomever is now the CEO hasn't been running the day to day stuff for awhile.

It's a privately held company. Cooper Arms was started by Dan Cooper and "Three former employees of Kimber of Oregon". My money is he's majority stockholder, probably by a significant margin(like 51% percent)

He may step down or out of the front office but he owns the damn company and since when do employees dictate their political views to the guy who signs their pay cheques or worry about his views...You don’t like them then you move on, not him!

Sorry, but I have bought Cooper Arms in the past and from Cooper Arms of Montana and will still buy from Cooper Arms of Montana...There are a large number of his sub caliber rifles floating around this neck of the woods—oops prairie—as well as some of the more obscure calibers like .17 HeeBee!

Like HTRN said they are bought a lot by varmint hunters but even their Sportsman series in the larger calibers (to .338/06) are excellent guns for fit and finish and especially accuracy...There has to be at least 75 of his rifles scattered amongst the "Insane Shooters"...I and a lot of us prefer his guns to Kimber except now that Kimber has a Predator series it will change the numbers somewhat but around here Kimber is your big game rifle not a varminter and Cooper is the opposite...
I've met him numerous times, at gun shows, at his place of business, corresponded both by post and later by e-mail and talked on the phone with the man and I trust him...He handled a lot of the rare customer service calls himself as his product is that good...

At no time did I ever consider him to be anything but a stanch supporter of the 2nd Amendment, pro for CCW and anti against gun laws and the people who perpetuate them…If that makes him a republican or a democrat I don’t know, nor do I really care so long as his guns shoot one holes at 100 yards and they do…

I'm starting to get into .22LR BR and his rifle is an excellent example of an entry level gun that I want to get and his Jackson Squirrel Rifle is the ultimate, Cadillac, of rimfire hunting guns...It's the stuff that wet dreams are made of!

Sorry, but I’ll still buy his guns and support him as a small, semi custom maker of quite excellent firearms…Too bad he did away with his falling block action that was made for him by another maker, it was a lovely rifle to shoot…

Yesterday, The USA Today reported that Dan Cooper, founder and owner of Cooper Firearms, lost his job. The reason: He's **voting for Obama:

"Montana gunsmith Dan Cooper has been ousted as chief executive of the rifle company that bears his name after pressure from gun owners who are angry that he is supporting Democrat Barack Obama."

Today, on behalf of the American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA), I condemned the actions by the NRA and its cronies forcing Dan Cooper out.

The gun lobby's attempt to destroy a good man and small business owner, a loyal member of the gun fraternity, again reveals the desperate Joe McCarthy-like politics of fear that the NRA leadership and others put first. They are trying to scare America's hunters and shooters into voting against Barack Obama -- but we have one thing to say: vote hope and not fear.

I have been campaigning in battleground states, including Ohio, Minnesota, Florida and Colorado for Barack Obama this fall. I know first-hand that gun owners are voting for Obama. They know their gun rights are secure. And they want a president who won't take their guns AND will focus on the economy and their jobs. It's beyond appalling that hard-core gun activists would destroy the economic livelihood of a guy like Dan Cooper. John McCain should be ashamed that his supporters have harmed a small business owner for political reasons. That should never happen in the America.

Last year we witnessed what happened to prominent outdoor writer and commentator Jim Zumbo when he dared take a position contrary to NRA policy. Now they are trying to do the same to Dan Cooper.

This is wrong, and rank and file gun owners who have no political ax to grind need to stand up, reject such underhanded tactics and have their voices heard. That's why AHSA was formed, to end this partisan bullying and to restore pride to the shooting sports. This action against Cooper reinforces my commitment to making change happen by electing Obama - and by building an organization for hunters and shooters who are tired of extremism.

* * I do believe that he made an error although I can't be certain...He said ousted for voting for Obama, shouldn't that be giving financial support to Obama as the vote hasn't happened yet and nowhere have I seen Dan come out and say I'm voting such on Tues...Then again, I really haven't been looking for it either and in most cases it wouldn't be reported on Canadian TV or newspapers anyway...

Many gun enthusiasts believe Obama will try to restrict their right to bear arms, although he has said he respects the Second Amendment.

If Obambi respects the Second Amendment like he says he does, then he would not infringe upon it, but he already said he wants to - so how is that "respecting" the amendment? Do the words "shall not be infringed." mean ANYTHING to Dumbo/Urkel?

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, a Democrat, said in a phone interview that he was disturbed by the backlash against Cooper.

"It's the silly season," Schweitzer said. "There are people who have partisan interests here, and they are using the gun issue. Three weeks from now these bloggers are going to wake up, look under their bed and see that their gun is still there."

Apparently he doesn't even understand that IF Dumbo wins, he still won't be sworn in until January 2009 - MUCH further than three weeks away. Asswipe.
