I suspect the attacker in this case was probably a red tailed hawk rather than an eagle.
It happens. A buddy had a cat mauled by a great horned owl once. Ziggy managed to escape and survived with the loss of an eye. He was a big old himalayan tomcat. As I said, I keep my cats indoors (for this and other reasons), so it hasn't happened to any of ours.

I love the "I'm angry so its ok to kill something" meme but if I tell her about the venison in my freezer...
Does she know where the pink slime she orders at McDonald's comes from?

A redtailed hawk doesn't have the size or strength to carry off a dog, even a small one.

I've seen them take ground squirrels too, so why wouldn't they be able to take a Chihuahua?
POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

My great grandmother in Valdez killed one when she caught it getting into her henhouse. Nowadays, you can go to jail if they catch you with one feather from one.

I disagree-I used to train and fly redtails. A big female could do it depending on the size of the dog in question. Not far though. I didn't catch the breed from the article, so you could be right that this *particular* dog would be too big.

She used the term Chi-Chi's to describe the dogs so I'm pretty sure it was the typical pop tart purse sized Chihuahuas.

Could be. I'm not into the Chihuahua sub-breeds, but I know there was a hell of a difference between a Pomeranian and the teacup Pomeranian I had another lifetime ago. That guy stood UP on his hind legs so his forelegs could rise above an upended roll of toilet paper.
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.
