Some of those pallets are made of very dense wood IIRC from my freight days. Well over 50 lbs each. A couple could be over 80 lbs. I suppose they've dried out a bit but it's still a lot of long term concentrated weight on the roof structure.

They also make a hell of a bonfire starter ;)

Tell that to the moron who burned a stack of pallets where we park our trucks at the local redneck shooting range. I have picked up over 80 nails in the last two trips.

I grew up w. a friend whose father owned a large plumbing company. Pallets galore. 5 or 6 of them + 1/2 gallon of gas + thrown match = instant bonfire to keep the girls warm while we swilled beer and JD.

Since we also four-wheeled and rode dirt bikes/quads in "the pit", we had the foresight to make a fire ring out of large rocks (some winched in) and contain our pallet fires. The rocks made nice seats (if the fire wasn't too big). I don't ever recall a flat from a pallet nail.

Damned kids these days!

There's a fair number of people making furniture from it, by laminating it together.
HTRN, I would tell you that you are an evil fucker, but you probably get that a lot ~ Netpackrat

Here's a book. Not too awful, but after disassembling a few pallets, I reckon it's only worth the effort if you're either very broke or very enthusiastic about recycling.
