We've moved into mil's house after her death. The house sits on the side of the Franklin Mountains facing east. Just below the house is a right of way and water runoff, two blocks above us is Franklin Mountain State Park.
Time is now 4:00 MST in El Paso
Just a few minutes ago, our neighbor (who leaves water and food out for wildlife), got my attention. Three deer were wandering below my house. Pretty does. Pictures aren't the greatest with the Kodak camera I have, lousy zoom on it.

No, they're white tail, fairly young too. There's an 8 pointer that comes around occasionally.
Funny thing, about a month ago I went out the back door to go get the newspaper at 6 AM. It wasn't there. I went back around and sat in the dining nook, which looks out on the same view. As I went back out to check for the paper, there was a BIG pile of deer scat right next to the rosebush outside the window.

I've heard that deer are some of the best sentries there are - although easily spooked too. That one was nearby and you weren't aware of it doesn't surprise me.

I was trying to look at their usual annual snowfall after seeing the small distance between the nearest hill/incline and the edge of that roof-line, thinking perhaps they made their way up there during a brief, but substantial snowfall - and the pallets were just shoved over for the event of the next time something similar happened. Thoughts (please keep in mind I do not live in snow country, nor do I have much experience of living in the snow or ice areas - I'm a native of SoCal)??

We usually get 8 to 9 inches of precip a year. We did have 22 inches of snow in two days back in the mid 80s.The last three years we've gotten half that. One reason most of the animals in the mountains behind us come down. In the last couple of years we've had bear and cougar, on both sides of the mountain, come down. In May of last year, a young lion was actually in the downtown area. It was shot inside a local car wash because a school was nearby.308Mike wrote:I was trying to look at their usual annual snowfall after seeing the small distance between the nearest hill/incline and the edge of that roof-line, thinking perhaps they made their way up there during a brief, but substantial snowfall - and the pallets were just shoved over for the event of the next time something similar happened. In this area of WV-Ohio, or deer have become very common in town. My backyard is fenced and with the dog they will stay out. Neighbors not so, eating the garden and shrubbery. We have a special hunt for them in town, but not that many are taken.

Given when those first couple of pictures were taken, I gotta ask: You bring back any stock tips or good lotto numbers?
