Arrows and knives don't make any noise - and I can see a huge increase in the use of suppressors even though they're illegal. After all, if you're going to shoot someone and break those laws, why worry about breaking the laws around using a suppressor?

After all, even if they know exactly where the shots came from, they still have to respond to the location and search for the suspect(s) wearing clothing like everyone else in the neighborhood.

It doesn't seem to work very well:

http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/ ... ing_sa.php
The Sheriff's Office began encountering glitches, mostly because the system was picking up noises such as firecrackers or a backfiring car and registering those sounds as gunfire. The sensors were also triggered by helicopters and the roar of downshifting trucks from nearby Interstate 95.
Will stop other cities from using it? Probably not.

That may be true in your state, but not in mine! ;)

The chance of them using this crap in your state is pretty remote in the first place. GOOD FOR YOU (and BAD for us - just another waste of taxpayer's money)!!!

LOL, I bet that the use of Jake brakes sets the system into a tizzy.

So, is there a picture of what those sensors look like out there? If not, there needs to be. The method used by Britons to deal with the "Gatso" devices comes to mind.....

I've been trying for quite a while to find one (or more) pictures of their microphone sensors, but have been unable to find any so far.

Wont necessarily work. It was tried here, and the authorities just went out in the press and said that they'd keep replacing them, and it would just waste more tax money, money that would otherwise be spent on programs that are actually useful. And it wasn't a problem to the people installing them, they got paid regardless, and the more they had to replace them, the more money they made.

I'm sure some people will stock up on firecrackers and blanks and go around town setting off the sensors, but that's the same problem. If the police is busy driving around investigating false alarms, they wont have time to deal with any real crime. Though that doesn't seem to be a priority anymore around here.
