Camofire: NIKON PROSTAFF 20-60x82(?)

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

Why I haven't looked at that scope yet today...

I set the strong backs and bottom plate for the rear side of this retaining wall earlier this fall. Been waiting for a clear weekend + clear weather to get some form boards set.

Instead of framing form sections I decided to go with whalers and strong backs against the hill. Hopefully the simplifies the breakdown. First I tacked some 2x to a sheet as a jig for aligning whalers to plysheets. I set the 2x4 on the left edge high and used it as a stop for aligning the sheet. Then is was real quick laying in 2x4 whalers on edged, aligning a sheet on top and the tacking the whalers on with a brad nailer.

The sheets and whalers then just dropped in in front of the strongbacks and plate (bolted to the the footing).

The stepped sections at the end took more time than the main section. Out toward the road the wall curves a bit where blends in to grade level. That took a bit of time too. Glad to have the help of a couple young guys from church -- they kept it moving inspite of me getting hobbled.

Yowza. Any reason for not using a preformed conc. "stone" system? http://www.keystonewalls.com/pages/prod ... tural_tabs Might be an east coast v west coast thing, but almost all walls out here are built using these units. They also come in very large sizes for highway/abutment use. Walls over 4' require a geo-textile to go back into the retained soil, so there is an extra excavating cost.

Don't let OSHA drive by and see those re-bars w/o these: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/ecatalog/N-1z0dlyb

Yes very familiar with the keystone walls. Earlier threads here from years past me putting in showed loooots of those walls on this lot. unghhh

That had been my original plan for this wall. I decided to pour in this spot though. Longterm plan is for a 40x24 ft shop/studio on that level. This p 3' poured wall will be the back wall on the long side of that building. That allowed me to set the building 2-3 ft further back. That helps with entry radius from the road and into the shopbay.. The widfh can be used for the drive that goes past the building. It keeps my 3 rv hoikups on a line with no jog in it. The front of the shop stays on a line with the key block wall below the pool at the back of the drive & nose/tail rv parking is cleaner

Ah, that makes sense. I vaguely recall seeing your pix of the modular walls on an older site.

Close enough to the border. Empty soda and water bottles satisfy Mexican OSHA

Yeah, I was busting your balls. OSHA usually doesn't bother w. residential stuff (however, some of my buds who do roofing say they are starting to stop by residential sites to check for safety harnesses).

In fact, in almost 25 years of business, I've had them stop by a residential site once. The inspector busted my balls about 2 extension cords that had "non-compliant" plugs. They were cords that were accidentally cut or had wires frayed, so I replaced them with UL listed plugs. Since they weren't the same as the plugs that came w. the cords, they were non-compliant in his eyes. I took a pair of snips, cut the cords in half and threw them in the dumpster. He seemed happy. Of course, after he left I pulled them from the dumpster and made 4 shorter cords from the 2 longer ones!
