While perusing the NRA Store looking for gift suggestions for my wife (who has even less idea what to buy for me than I have to for her) I came across this product, which looks pretty good to me. Anyone have one, know someone who has one, or have any opinion on it?

I'd use it for my Garand, and it seems to be long enough, it says it handles a rifle up to 45" long and the Garand is 43.5". I'd probably get it in brown since it'll show the dust and dirt less than the black one, besides, if anyone teases me about being tachticool I'll show them my old-school rifle inside.
What say you?

Can't answer directly, but this type of bag/mat is quite popular with the Appleseed participants. I would like one, but don't have enough nickles gathered up.

I got one last year for my birthday. It's pretty nice, for being an imported item. Not quite as durable as I'd like, but it will do the job. I think that I had some stuff like the zipper pulls fail right away. The big pouch on the side doesn't have real MOLLE on the back, but it's similar. Its what holds my brass from the range each time I go.

If you find the regular sized mats too narrow, Champion Shooters Supply sells "winged" mats for around 80 bucks.

Are you suggesting I may be too fat for a standard mat? I just may be.....HTRN wrote:If you find the regular sized mats too narrow, Champion Shooters Supply sells "winged" mats for around 80 bucks.
I like this idea because it does double duty, carries the rifle and also opens up to a mat, one less thing to have to carry from the car to the line. May even be able to get all my stuff in one trip.

The wings are mostly for the arms, so I think it's mainly for shooters who are tend to spread out with their arms, vs. the classic tucked in tight.

Unless you had stash of suitable leftover material it'd be hard to even sew one up yourself for that price. All those zippers, hook/loop and strapping adds up.
