That's a shame. She had a long, productive life, a senseof humor, and all the recognition and rewards a professional writter could hope for. You can't ask for more than that.
Her son Todd effectively took over the franchise several years ago. He's pretty good at writing Pern novels in the same style as Ann, so there won't be any shortage of new stories as long as people still want to buy them.
I've always suspected that the lack of a Pern movie or TV series was due to excessive creative control demanded by Ms. McCaffrey. An HBO series a'la "Game of Thrones" would be awsome.

The first hardcover fiction book I ever owned was one of hers. I still have what's left of it after all those readings. And it's backup replacement. And every other Pern novel she published.

Usually a fair means of judging someone, provided the distinction between "utilizing" and "treating poorly" is remembered.CByrneIV wrote: My personal belief, is that someone who treats horses and dogs badly, is, by nature, a bad person.

I'm too tired to look it up, but it reminds me of the saying that the measure of a man is how he treats a living creature which has no potential to give anything back.
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.
