It's not the colder temperatures, even though I hate the cold. It's not even raking the leaves or mulching them or bagging them. The one thing I dislike the most is that the leaves don't fall off the trees all at once. That would make my yardwork much easier.
Science, get off your butt and fix this problem now! I can tell you're lying when you say you're too busy trying to save the world. Try saving my weekends in November instead, dammit!
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to yell at a cloud.

There is an old zen Koan that translates something like, "All things are accomplished through inaction." Don't rake until the trees are finished falling.

And if you get lucky, the wind will pick up before you rake up and blow your leaves far, far away from your property!dpatten wrote:There is an old zen Koan that translates something like, "All things are accomplished through inaction." Don't rake until the trees are finished falling.

I hear you. I have a white oak, which is almost finished dropping, and two huge red oaks that haven't even started yet. I'm lucky though, we just pile the leaves in the gutter and the town picks them up, no bagging.

That'd be a hell of a lot of wind. My back yard is fenced and the way it's going I won't be able to rake or mulch until after the last snowfall. It'll probably rain over the weekend despite the forecasts. If I'm lucky I'll get to spend Friday raking and bagging until it's time for the hockey game.308Mike wrote:And if you get lucky, the wind will pick up before you rake up and blow your leaves far, far away from your property!dpatten wrote:There is an old zen Koan that translates something like, "All things are accomplished through inaction." I had the last of my birch trees cut down this year (it was growing up around the power lines), so I shouldn't have to worry much about leaves next year. Not that I worried about them much anyway. Usually the last use of the lawnmower in the fall takes care of them as a byproduct.

I have a couple dogwood in my front yard, easy to tidy up after. However, right next door is the mighty oak, a red oak. That fucking tree drops a dose of leaves every so often, it seems to cycle, a few now, some more a bit later, and so forth. It even manages to carry a load of leaves thru the winter, dropping them in the spring after I have already cleaned up the winter mess. To compound the problem, the neighbors seem to be lazy asses, never raking their lawn which means with every gust of wind another pile of leaves head my way. Our town doesn't allow raking leaves into the street, gotta bag or mulch.

Silver maples are a pain in the ass.. The leaves won't fall all at once. The silver leafs are smaller, they curl up and get down in between the grass.. Real hell to rake if it's a wet fall..

Liquid Amber trees are the same way, 'cause their stupid little spike balls interfere with any kind of power tools (lawn mowers punch them out the sides after chopping them in half, so they don't even make it into any bagging system). They roll under your feet if you step on them, and you'd be one sorry individual if you ever stepped on one barefoot and/or tripped and fell onto a few of them while putting your hands out to break your fall.Ben Rumson wrote:Silver maples are a pain in the ass.. These damned spike balls are supposed to be some kind of fruit (at least to the tree), but I said they lie!
