Here's a very nice site about automobiles of the past and present, done by a guy who does auto photography and writes reviews for the KC Star among other places. Very cool pics:

Here's one story about a beautiful '63 Vette and its owners:

I don't understand why he decided to put DRUM brakes on something like that. With all that weight, those brakes are going to glaze over in a heart-beat.Darrell wrote:Here's one about a guy who put an Allison V-12 in a hot rod:

Those look like Al-fin drums. Very period, very trick.308Mike wrote:I don't understand why he decided to put DRUM brakes on something like that. With all that weight, those brakes are going to glaze over in a heart-beat.

Because it's a T and disc brakes would ruin the look.308Mike wrote:I don't understand why he decided to put DRUM brakes on something like that. With all that weight, those brakes are going to glaze over in a heart-beat.Darrell wrote:Here's one about a guy who put an Allison V-12 in a hot rod:

You can change the look, I want to be able to STOP the damned thing in a hurry, if necessary! Not have the brakes glaze over when I do so and continue rolling with barely a decrease in speed!merll2005 wrote:Because it's a T and disc brakes would ruin the look.308Mike wrote:I don't understand why he decided to put DRUM brakes on something like that. That thing is slick as shit. Personally, I would add a chute for emergencies.
I still would love to see Jim Lytle's Monster make a pass. it's just that the Allisons have been driven up so much in price by the Warbird guys, that they've gotten too expensive to screw with - even the vintage thunderboat guys are having problems.
Thing is, with modern forced induction tech, you can get even more hp out of a motor less than a quarter the displacement - a twin turboed LS-X displacing 400CID made 2000hp.

HTRN, I would tell you that you are an evil fucker, but you probably get that a lot ~ Netpackrat
