The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

Tell her she has a week to get with the program and detail what the consequences are if she fails. Make sure that it is the girlfriend doing the talking. The more you try to control her the more she will want to rebel. Being 17, living at home, and going to high school is all about screwing up and learning from your mistakes. You and the girlfriend need to be supportive but let her know that if she screws up badly there are consequences.
When I was in high school my summer vacation and weekends were completely different from school days. I still got good grades, marched in the marching band, walked to school 2 out of 4 years and worked a part time job 3 out of 4 years.
We just inherited her from her father. In 3 years of high school she has 12.5 credits. She needs 24 to graduate. The screwing up part has been handled by her dad already. We are reworking the clay and adding a support / guidance structure so failure is noticed and fixed quickly. One reason we know about cranky drag ass morning syndrome.
She is very aware of consequences, but she is still adjusting to the immediate karma cycle here.

Seventeen year old...
Girl...
Unstable background with no good influences...
God have mercy on your soul! Seriously, this is going to take a lot of energy and patience on your part, assuming your GF is even going to be on board with you. If not, give up hope on saving her and go to survival mode. A LOT. OF PATIENCE. If you're really good, she'll turn out fine and thank you in the end. Best of luck to you.

The GF is completely on board.
The "step-daughter" is already doing much better and is now enrolled in the school I teach at. So discipline and oversight will be greatly simplified and I don't even have to do most of it. We'll see how it all turns out, but so far she is half the wild animal she was.
