Tactical Cactus!
downsized_0724011213.jpg
I've had the cactus itself for a while now, and it's been needing to be repotted, so I wanted to come up with something fun. Turns out an old Greek .30-06 spam can is just about the ideal size. Had to put a plastic liner in, since I didn't want to rust out the can itself and/or have metallic whatnots (technical term; trust me, I was a chemistry major) leaching into the soil. Ends up that the liner is a tad too short, so I'll be putting in blocks of some sort to raise it to a more visually appealing level, while still allowing water to drain through the holes I drilled in both the liner and the can.

A successful Sunday afternoon, I think.

Dog cactus already do that, albeit, only to a very short range... (FYI, they are a really evil cactus w. long thorns which can penetrate a leather boot. I learned early on in W. TX to carry pebbles and throw them at the cactus - they grow underneath some kind of bush, and "spring" out at you when you walk by.)

This thread needs a cigarillo, a poncho and a Clint Eastwood quote.

I wanted to find either a cowboy hat or a sombrero, but neither of those things are in great supply in my house...
