Thanks; My brother and I are discussing getting a couple of Honda gasoline generators for emergency use, something with fairly clean power output. I'll mention to him the solar with the battery bank (and get that book).
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

If you're looking for a fixed installation, you don't need a pure sine inverter generator. It's a lot cheaper getting something that is physically reliable but wiith dirty power, and then running it through a crossover and battery network and into your whole house pure sine inverter.
ABSOLUTELY!! A pure sine wave converter is a LOT more money on the initial purchase, usually more than DOUBLE (sometimes a LOT more than double) the price of a dirty wave generator.

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

Any decent generator will give reasonably clean power, certainly any Honda genny. What you are looking for is less than 5 % THD(total harmonic distortion). Any Honda brand genny should give you under 3 % THD.
