I would LOVE to have a flagpole to fly an 8' x 15' flag!! Maybe one of these days when I'm having some work done in the front of the house I can have them mount a flagpole sufficient to support the wind-load of a 8' X 15' flag.

One of these days................ it'll happen! :D

So the Navy Jack? Or just plain blue, no stars?
Sorry I meant this as a complete flag might be cool.

I have a wooden flagpole attached to the house, the kind some people use for holiday flags and such. I fly an American flag on it 24/7 (it's illuminated by the porch light), have since shortly afterr 9/11 (meaning I started about four months after we moved in). Since the pole takes a wrap-around flag, flag quality is hit-or-miss, sometimes it starts to fray/tear in a few months, sometimes I get a year or so out of a flag. The local VFW has an old mailbox outside it for retired flags, I bring them there when they're too beat up to fly.

I cheated - The pole was free and was laying on the property when I got the place. The previous owner was going to use it for a yard light. It was a used, municipal street light pole. When we poured the footing on the shop I had an 8' hole dug with Sonotube and rebar ready to go. A local machine shop made me 1.75" threaded bolts with a bend in the base that went into the wet concrete. Whal-La, a 42' flagpole was up. If I ever hit the lottery, I may explore the option of a bladed windmill........

I think the Bonnie Blue would work well

Well, I picked up a new flag and hung it outside. I thought about ironing out the wrinkles, but since I bought a nylon flag instead of cotton this year, I wasn't so sure if I'd wind up damaging it instead of only taking out the wrinkles and fold lines.

I prefer good-quality cotton flags, but I don't have the spare change to get on this year. Perhaps next year I can get a nice cotton flag - displaying bright and proud colors, waving in the breeze, and on Memorial Day will fly high (like ROLLING THUNDER) above my Marine Corps flag (my next door neighbor is Army, but down the street you'll find a few more Marine Corps flags and perhaps the occasional Navy flag).

No worries as we ALL look out for each other and have a terrifically low crime rate in these parts - which unfortunately doesn't apply to the bottom of the hill and the apartments at the end of the entrance street (whose residents know better than to come up here looking for trouble or to commit petty crimes). It's amazing what a solid walnut buttstock can accomplish when liberally applied to the head, even WITH a recoil pad! Nope, those turds stay away from places they KNOW they might get shot.

See, military vets flying their service flags has a GREAT deterrent effect all in themselves! :D :D

Just replaced mine for the weekend. I will be here for the holiday and will ensure that the flag is flying.

I cheat. I fly my flag 24/7 here in Goodyear. The city of Goodyear provides the illumination with the street light almost directly over my flag.

I may configure a camera to watch the flag leading up to the 4th. Don't want a repeat of the last 2 years.

Please elaborate. Should we put an armed guard on your flags? ;)
