^ This.

I always try and maximize my vacation days. For example this week I'm taking off Friday, so we can leave Thursday. And I won't have to be back in to work until Tuesday thanks to memorial day.

Last year around Christmas I took 6 days off but had 12 off work due to weekends and holidays.

I was "self employed" for many years. owned my own companies and many times had to take "tween times or tween jobs" in order to get away. Before cell phones and internet, it was tough. That was just one of the reasons I bought an Airplane. I did manage to train a good superintendent and a Jr partner who could handle up to about 90% and then long distance came into play.

At my job, I get "sick leave" and annual leave.

Four hours of sick leave per pay period. Four hours of annual leave a pay period. I can carry over 240 hours of annual leave and unlimited sick leave. Next year it goes up to six hours of leave a pay period. I have a weird schedule, so I get two three day weekends every six weeks. Hopefully we can go to a compressed work week.

This year, I took two weeks of vacation, and I still have almost forty hours of annual leave left.

I resemble the article but I work for a European company. I get 27 PTO days plus five major holidays.. PTO includes sick days, vacation days or whatever I choose to use them for.

I cherish the time off so greatly it's a deciding factor in not leaving the company due to my lower than scale pay. My flexible schedule plays a major role in the decision not to leave as well.

Previous jobs in other industries have been one to two weeks and it was an argument to get that. Total bullshit.
