American Flag Replacement

I don't know about many of the folks here, but I fly my American flag every day - so it tends to get quite a bit of abuse so I replace it every year - before Memorial Day (so I have a nice, bright, & clean flag to fly on Memorial Day).

Flag Day is the following month, but I wish it was before Memorial Day to help remind people to replace their flags before that solemn day.

Do YOU have a regular American flag replacement schedule, and if so, when do you replace it?

Mine also flys 24/7. It usually only lasts about 90 days. Depends on the wind. I replace it when it gets frayed. Also the last two years, right after the fourth of July, when it was stolen!

My flag flies 24/7, lit; and I replace it at the first sign of raggedness or real wear; but that's highly variable in our weather.

Agreed, but in our climate, the wear and tear on our flag isn't what it would be in other climates. For the most part, our's mostly suffer from sun fade and maybe a little wind feathering (but not material tearing or splitting). Most of the time, when I go to replace it, many folks would still consider it okay - but I don't, since I like the bright colors and solid fabric of a brand new flag!

OT, but that means that it's ok to fly the flag at night in the US?
The flag code here specifically states that the flag should only be up when the sun is up, and if you fly it you should fly it all day from dawn to dusk. I'm not sure how strict that is these days, but I do remember people knocking on my grandparents home to remind them to get the flag down if it was 30mins after dusk.
That's actually the reason why I don't fly a flag, I simply couldn't manage to follow that code with work and other activities away from home.

I have a rather battered 48 star flag hanging in my armory/computer room. Reminds me how we used to do things.

I get about 6 months of 24/7 use. Looking out my window right now and it appears to be close to time for another...

About three months, as the frequent winds blowing New Mexico (and sometimes Old) by us do a number on it.

Our Fleet Reserve Association Branch does a ceremonial Flag Retirement each year in September. We gather flags all year
and invite the local fifth-grade classes to witness. That's when I would retire my old flag if it needed it. My flag-pole is still
in the planning stage; I display my flag on Memorial Day, Veterans' Day, July 4th, and Pearl Harbor Day. It still looks new
after twenty years.
