Gun Footwear: Madonna Gets Slammed For Wearing Gun Heel Shoes

The fashion and entertainment website, TrendHunter posted photos of pop icon, Madonna, using guns as fashion accessories. Advocates and survivors of gun violence were, appropriately, outraged at her insensitivity and for glamorizing guns, especially to young women.

Madonna is catching some heat for wearing Chanel’s gun heel shoes to the NYC screening of her film “Filth and Wisdom” in which the queen of pop (and controversy) made her directorial debut.

Mothers Against Murder And Aggression (MAMAA) which is a murder victim’s group labeled Madonna as “uncaring”.

Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld was inspired to create the gun toting footwear by an image of a gun he saw and then gave to Chanel’s shoe designer Laurence Decade and told him to make the heat-packing shoes.

Lyn Costello, from MAMAA told Metro: "I am horrified that Madonna can see these shoes as fashion. "As a mother herself I would have thought that she would have paused for a second and thought about all the young people here and in her own country that have died because of gun crime.

"It's uncaring. Surely she reads the news and realises that young people are dying every day."

And indeed women are, "literally" living under the threat of gun violence.

A major report from the Violence Policy Center (VPC), "When Men Murder Women" found these disturbing facts:

Nationwide, 1,836 females were murdered by males in single victim/single offender incidents in 2006. Where weapon use could be determined, firearms were the most common weapon used by males to murder females (907 of 1,675 homicides or 54 percent).
·
Of these, 73 percent (666 of 907) were committed with handguns.
·
In cases where it could be determined if the victim knew her killer, 92 percent of female victims (1,572 out of 1,701) were murdered by someone they knew.
·
Of these, 60 percent (949 out of 1,572) were wives or intimate acquaintances of their killers.
·
More than 12 times as many females were murdered by a male they knew than were killed by male strangers.
·
What does this data tell us? It tells us that men, armed with firearms, especially handguns, pose a significant risk to their intimate partners, wives, girlfriends, and estranged lovers. The
VPC study inherently refutes the gun lobby's myth that guns are mostly used for self-protection, when in fact, guns are used to control, intimidate, abuse, and, in fact, murder women in appalling and unacceptable levels.

Advocates are justified in criticizing celebrities such as Madonna for using fashion to make handguns cool to girls and young women.

In fact, we have considered launching a campaign centered on women, guns, and domestic violence.
The message is simple, and directed at mostly young women: "I Don't Date Boys Who Own Guns."

Our campaign would certainly be a long term strategy to empower women to make positive and healthy choices in their lives, part of which, is considering the risk to their own lives if their boyfriends and husbands own guns.

We need to move our culture further along to the point where guns are disdained and no longer considered objects of desire, power, or glamor.

As a side note, another post on TrendHunter caught our eye: "Machine Gun Cell Phones - Uzi Mobile".

Image

This is one of the most bizarre cell phones I have seen. This is a mobile embedded in an Uzi machine gun. Assuming that both the weapon and the mobile are fully functional, you should be able to go on a rampage and call all your friends to brag about it.

I have a feeling this is a Photoshopped image and I usually find these things hilarious, but my aversion for guns and other weapons precludes any celebration on my part.[/i]

We have a long way to go.

Now I definitely want Bayoneta - the heroine in that game has WORKING firearms installed in the heels of her shoes (so she can do handstands and hose down enemy thugs).

Finally, a way to get women to carry on an everyday basis... Not particularly attractive, IMO, but I seem to think women should dress like Jackie O/Audry Hepburn, or Sophia Lauren, so...

Hmm... Put a screw stud on the bottom of the heel, tap the backstrap of either a beretta tomcat or an NAA Mini, and thread and cap the muzzle...

The whole thing sort of implies that there are mothers FOR murder and aggression. And then there is the FFFAF ("Fathers For Fornication And Flatulence)
