Here is an animated interpretation of that scene by Bernard Derriman.

He seems like good backstop material to me.

Yup, he's greatly respected in Australia. ;)

I'm not one of those people ( and there must be a lot of them about, judging by the amount of best selling autobiographies ( ghost ) written by criminals ) who idolises gangsters

But I do have a lot of time for Chopper because :-

1) He's very, very funny. I can forgive an awful lot in a person if they make me laugh

2) He reminds me of a friend I had as a teenager who was violent and unpredictable, but good fun to be around. Mostly...

3) Chopper only preyed on other criminals

+1, I grew up around some "machine" types, the world would be better off w. them dead. They're similar to many politicians. You have to be "friendly" with them, out of fear, but you know you can never trust them in any fashion, and the world would be vastly better off if they'd never been born.

The only thing which matters to them is their own self-interest, and the only things they refrain from doing are those which they do not perceive to be in their interest... Come to think of it, I think most "mob" types, and most politicians (any not motivated by a genuine sense of service), must have identical psychological profiles...

Heh, I was referring to a different type of machine.

Actually, really not all that different... :?

Well, IMO, they're just the same garbage, but not as successful. Now, I have run into some decent men who are ODC's in Belarus, but there's a world of difference between a machine state, and a Soviet dictatorship - and there's a difference between what those men did, and what an ODC tends to do.

Um, ODC? I tried some searches, but I don't see anything like what you're talking about.
