I just got to see Episode One of "The Pacific" a ten part mini-series dealing with WW2 in the PTO following behind the author, Robert Leckie's, exploits...I have all his books replaced, excellent writer.
I was impressed that they equipped the Marines with M1903A1 Springfield bolt guns instead of the Garand but according to DOD sources the soldiers still wore the 1917 British Pattern "Doughboy" helmet more then the one that covered the ears until after Guadalcanal where this episode ends.
Very well filmed, acted and major kudos to the equipment and clothing departments for the authenticity so far displayed to furniture, music, civilian and military attire, gear and the guns--they even used revolvers.
Watch it--great stuff and if it continues at this level, I'll want to get the DVD package to go with my "Band of Brothers".

We had a thread on this somewhere here. I did not like the series that much. It eventually goes more Thin Red Line than Band of Brothers and the plot telegraphed itself allot. I do not like being able to foretell major plot points episodes in advance.

Agreed, the first few episodes were good but then the series just seemed to drag at the same time it became disjointed. Probably because it covered several years of campaings in a dozen locations. That whole episodes were focused on R&R in Australia did not help.Kommander wrote:We had a thread on this somewhere here. I did not like the series that much.
