Re: One in Five Brits Think Light Sabers Exist
This should be titled One in Five Brits who has nothing else to do but answer idiotic surveys unlike the rest who simply hung up on us think light sabers exist.

Light sabers "an elegant weapon from a more civlized age"?Highspeed wrote:I reckon 75% of our geek heavy community here on the Gun Counter WISH that light sabres existed
FUCK THAT NOISE. I'm a firm believer in the Douglas Adams school of Weapon Design:
The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with.'

POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.
I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

Teleportation would revolutionize surgery. Imagine organ transplants and joint replacements as outpatient procedures that leave no scars.Termite wrote:I'd say teleportation would be really useful and practical; it would save me a bunch of money on gas, and a lot of time, too.308Mike wrote:When the British survey asked what inventions people most wanted to see become reality, men voted for time machines and teleportation, while women hoped for something more practical: a universal cure for all diseases.
Universal cure for all diseases? Then how is Mother Nature supposed to thin the herd?

That's something that doesn't make sense. Hand to hand combat is WAY more brutal than shooting someone from afar. Watching your victim as his eyes go wide and his mouth is gasping for his last breath as you plunge you laser-sword into his chest that's civilized?HTRN wrote: Light sabers "an elegant weapon from a more civlized age"?
And what about the dismemberment? Cutting your foe in half, or taking his arms and legs off? That's somehow civilized?

Years from now our children and grandchildren living in a 3rd world America will ask "What were you doing on March 21st 2010 and why didn't you stop it?"

The "civilized" part comes from having a dominant "warrior class" to rule over us lowly peons. Anybody can figure out how to use a blaster; effectiveness with contact weapons requires a level of skill that can only be honed through years of study and countless hours of practice, and ordinary working people normally don't have the sort of leisure time required to achieve that. So, you wind up with things like hereditary rule, a permanent upper class, etc. Fuck that noise.
